I had quite a few slips at the start of my AF journey but with the wise words of help and encouragement from some people on here I found myself able to find the strength to give up eventually and now it seems the longer I do the more determined I am.
I too thought I could become a social drinker but as you have found it is so easy to slip all the way back....and now I know it is all or nothing and so Has to be nothing.:o
Good luck....you have already done 100 days.......so you can do more.I know some people say one day at a time but for me that meant I could have a drink one day and then start giving up again (IYSWIM).I have to say "I will not drink again".It is scary but you can do it and it will be worth the effort.
Take care of YOU

Hi all and merry Christmas. Skiing at the mo, and just had my 3rd consec sober Christmas. Not easy as there is alcohol everywhere and any food item which says 'luxury' means full of booze
However, I got through it, and the nice thing about being sober a while is that you can look past experiences and think 'I got through that, I can get through this'
I couldn't get sober without help from others and the main thing was I was willing to go to any length to get it.
This thread has helped people cut down (which is great) but only a few people have managed to stop drinking altogether just using this thread.
If you wanted to quit drinking in 2009 and didn't manage it, then please try other methods in addition to this thread
Don't waste another year trying to get AF without changing your methods. Try something different, and if that doesn't work. Try something else
This thread is great, though for some people they need more than this. The question is do they want it enough? Maybe they'll have to lose things first - health, relationships, friends, jobs, etc
I hope not though0 -
Morning all!
IM - well done on your achievement - you really are an inspiration. I know what you mean about the slippery slope. I'm ok if I haven't had a drink in a while, it really doesn't bother me. Then the minute I have one I seem to get the taste for it again
Well boxing day went off rather well in the piggy house. Out-laws came for tea and were remarkably well behaved. They even ate my food:rotfl:(normally MIL turns up with a tray of her home made sausage rolls and proceeds to eat just them and nothing else!!). Then when Piglet finally went to sleep we played some games with OH's kids. AND AND AND....I had about 3 glasses of wine ....and then stopped! Enjoyed playing the games with the kids so much more with a clearish head and nice to wake up without a hangover.
Cooking a roast for the kids lunchtime today before they go home to their mum. Then me, OH and Piglet are wrapping up and going to feed some ducks. Think Piglet is in dire need of fresh air and exercise!! Me too, to be honest.
Hope you are all well anyway....soon be new year!;)

Hi everybody
Had several glasses of wine last night, so now have headache in addition to foul cold picked up while in the Alps staying in a tiny little apartment with people walking past waking me up all night.:mad:
Anyway onwards and upwards and back on the fit and healthy 6 AFD-per-week life again! Mr PIR going to see MIL today with two of the DDs, DD2 and I are staying here - lovely, peaceful day for us then!!:T
I hope everybody is well and happy :j
I hope Budgie gets her laptop repaired soon (the expense of that, don't want to think about it)
Bi for now

Morning all
IM, had a quiet xmas, nice, no visits to the outlaws as they are sunning themselves on a boat in the Carribean somewhere:D:D You are doing fantastically, nip it in the bud before you regret it.
MP, lol to you and the profiterole :rotfl: had whoever bought them forgotten you don't drink any longer? Did it taste strongly of alcohol then? x
GC, enjoy the skiing, be carefulx
Miss P, well done for staying in control, hope you enjoy feeding the ducks later, it's nice when things get back to normal after xmas isn't it!
Angie, enjoy your day
IM, I might have to join you on your new 365 day challenge if you don't mind? I think it was GC that said the other day that it's a good idea to get a few AF days in before new years. I agree with this, I know that 1st Jan is a good time to start new rituals and all that, but to be honest the 1st of Jan is probably the most depressing day of the year and I can't tell you how many times I've tried to quit drinking on that day and it's been too overwhelming. So, yes, I will knock it on the head from today so that by 1st Jan I'll be 5 days sober and hopefully the day won't seem so depressing after all
I really do need to make a start on saving some pennies here and there to go into my various pots that I have for xmas 2010, MOT, tax, birthdays etc etc. So some of the money I would've spent on alcohol will start that off nicely
Hope you all have a lovely day today

PIR, so sorry to hear you're unwell
though what a bonus not having to go to MIL's, that would make my year!!! We had to endure xmas dinner round there a month or so ago as they're off on a cruise for xmas. And unfortunately we've got to go to BIL's for dinner on Wednesday, they live even further away than FIL, they might as well be in a different country  not looking forward to that drive, any sign of dodgy weather and I'm gonna break my car again :rotfl:

:jMorning All,
Thanks for your words of encouragement. I am feeling positive this morning, and beginning my new challenge. I have poured the remains of a bottle of wine down the sink, and that felt good.
Back on track now. Two days of endulgement in food and wine behind me now. It would be great to have you on board Jo, for the new challenge. I know what you mean about the 1st Jan thing, New Years resolutions are hard to start and keep. We'll be ahead of the pack by then.
Lets do it:j

Good lord, I feel almost upbeat about quitting
Not so upbeat about returning the Freeview box to Argos though, joining the mile long returns queue in Argos is not my idea of a nice Sunday afternoon :rolleyes:DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0
