  • Hi Guys,

Need a bit of advise re pet insurance for puppy. Have been searching on the internet but seems a bit of a minefield and premiums seem to vary enormously. Any advise on what type of policy to go for would be appreciated. I know I can to the pets thread ( but I am a bit scared )

    Thanks

Personally, we don't bother with insurance at all. We have 4 dogs, 12 cats, and all the farm animals too. We have found that if you have insurance, there is always a get-out clause, or you have to pay the excess anyway. We find if you go to the vets without insurance, the 'problem' or 'illness' is always, without fail, less major. If you have insurance then they will milk it! We find it far better to just put a little away each month towards the fees when they come up. Mrs BHB pays this straight to to vets every month, sometimes she is in credit, sometimes not.

If you are on benefits you can also get help from PDSA towards major bills. (You don't have to go to one of there vets).

Also the medicines, wormer's & flea stuff is also twice as much from the vets as if you buy it independently.

    Just our opinion anyway. :D

Hello. havent read back yet but just to add to the pet insurance thing... someone just sued me saying my dog bit her dog, which caused her dog to slip its collar, which caused her to fall over and damage her shoulder... There were no witnesses. My dog did bark, but didnt bite the other dog (although has done on another occasion!!)! My insurance company made an out of court settlement of .. £8.5K!!! Was very glad to have insurance but this was via our house insurance - not our pet insurance! So, check to see if it is really worth it. In any case make sure you are covered for this type of eventuality - if your animal causes a road accident for example, you are liable. By the way, the woman who sued me fell over because she was drunk!! A passerby stopped to help her up and told me the lady had been drinking, but I did not think to take their details. Insurance co told me, if I had that person as a witness they would never have had to pay anything!

so, PS, 15 for me please GG! Have been v busy to not on here much last few days. i hope everyone is well. I was at a hen night on Saturday (AF!!) and met a lovely lady whose husband died of alcoholism. She said how it was so sad - he was a wonderful charming man, they had been happily married for years and she loved him dearly but he just couldnt stop. He died in hospital. Her daughter is getting married next year and has no dad to give her away... So very sad. (you will like to know the happy ending that she met someone else a few years later and is now very happy with him!).

  • Hello
thanks for all your welcomes, its nice to be part of the thread :j.
Mind you confessions - not AF Sunday or tonight as I'm a pub quizzer.
I do want to stop the mid-week drink therefore have my own 72 hour challenge of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week!
There I have said it out loud and there are witnesses  so hopefully the shove I need to put in the effort and make sure I don't buy a bottle, it makes it easier if there isn't any wine in the house - not really a spirit drinker which is just as well with the amount of gin we have ammassed :rotfl:.
Anyway will love you and leave you, hope your having a good Monday and not getting blown away!
BB hope the back is easing up.

    take care xx
