What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

Good morning - well, it's not so great here - very cold and damp and I have decided that I have a touch of flu. I have a fever, achey joints upset tummy and a cough/sneeze/bunged up nose. So, I'm staying at home again and trying to shake it off.

Sorry to read that so many others are also suffering - should we open up an AF clinic where we can all drink lemsip and snuffle together.

Needless to say I didn't have any alcohol yesterday. Feeling ill does help with the sobriety doesn't it?
    Trying to keep in budget.

  • Hi Lurky  and everyone
Too much wine and didn't grab the wagon as it went past last night. Didn't manage to count the number of glasses and I've been awake since 4 as a result. Can't get my head out of worrying about work mode, and now I'm knackered and won't be as efficient as if I'd stayed sober last night. Annoyed at myself. In the pub tonight, which could make it tricky today.
Hope everyone has a good day.

AF last night making it 8 days now.

Had a very positive day yesterday which I enjoyed, however have woken up today not feeling very positive.

Up and down it goes I guess.

    You don't have to drink.
If there is one thing that sobriety has taught me, it is that in the past I felt I couldn't NOT drink, but in fact, I can. I can not drink.
    I found this amazing.
I can go to the pub and not drink. If I felt I wanted to drink, I wouldn't go to the pub. The choice is mine.

Instead of being angry at yourself, you could decide to try something different. Use this thread and some other method of being AF. This thread alone is not keeping your drinking down to limits that you're happy with, so perhaps investigate other methods too.

Embrace the positives and plough through the negatives - you'll get there.

Morning all! hope everyone is feeling a bit better today? sounds like there is lots of illness going round. On the plus side I think being AF (or at least cutting down) does mean your resistance to bugs and germs is stronger and you can fight it off!
GG that's 16 for me please. I was interested in what Honeybear said earlier :

something like "I felt like drinking some wine but then decided that would be drinking just for the sake of it so have resisted"

I was wondering - why did I drink so much (and could, so easily again)? It was entirely just for the sake of it. It wasnt for ME as such. It was just to drink. I've been thinking about drink a lot, and why I do/did it. With a holiday coming up it made me think that when I go away, what I look forward to most of all is lying in the sun and drinking. Why? What does it give me? (Apart from a thick head, a porky belly and a shortage of notes in my purse!). Weird.

I'm now habitually not drinking, which is great! Finally breaking those bad habits and have been able to go out socially without drinking and had the revelation that amazingly - quite a lot of other people do that too!! Hurrah! And we can actually enjoy ourselves!
