  • Jo, thank you for posting. I bet I'm not the only one with tears in my eyes.

You do sound like a different person now, and as you say it's only a month ago that you felt so desperate. You've come through the pain of your rock bottom moment, and can now see a future. Fantastic:j.

Your post shows just how depressed and distorted thinking can get with the booze, when all the time there is this wonderful positive (even if manically cleaning) person just waiting to get out from under.

I've been on anti depressents for a couple of years now and I got to thinking....maybe my depression isn't depression at all just a symptom of my drinking if that makes sense?

PBT, I was depressed, doc kept telling me I needed Anti-d's but I didn't want to go down that road at the time. I now 100% believe that it was the alcohol that was making me depressed and I wasn't drinking because I was depressed. I've taken the cause away and I'm cured :D Good luck at your mums, remember the anticipation is the main part of the need to drink, not the actual drinking of it, for me the drinking was the bit that made me depressed it was the anticipation that excited me. I finally, today, understand the quote 'it's the first drink that gets you drunk'. Have a fantastic weekend xxx

Can I say that this is so true, plus the cleaning bit, I've done 16 years worth of drinking time cleaning in just 30 days :rotfl: I even run around after the kids picking things up last night  I'm like a different person!!

:kisses3: Well done jo, what a star!!!

You are so brave writing that all out for us (and yourself). Very sad to know what you've been through but thrilled that you're coming out the other side. Please be careful though that you don't replace drinking with cleaning :D I'm really worried that your OH is going to end up on the dump some time soon.

PBT2008, many people on here find that buying 'special' soft drinks can help. I totally empathise with what jo says about the anticipation thing rather than the drinking itself. Why not take something with you to your mum's to have with your meal while she's having her glass of wine (like a fancy fizzy water or something). That way you have a plan to replace just accepting a drink out of habit.

Only trouble is that if she's anything like my mum was she will buy you that drink, every time you visit, forever.:D

I agree with Maman, be prepared and take something else to drink with you, if you are normally a wine person then I hear that Shloer is quite nice (can't stand it meself ). Imagine how proud of yourself you will be when you are AF and wake up unhungovered :)

  • Thanks guys. Very good idea...I'll take a few cans of diet coke...like the whole ring pull fizz thing! And drink it from a wine glass.

I've just been reading some of Part 2 of this thread.....many familiar 'faces'. It's amazing how different you feel about alcohol when you finally admit that you are an alcoholic. Echo of Jo's ideas of not always thinking...when can I? How much can I? Now its... Today I'm not drinking. Ironically for me giving up drinking is easier than cutting down ever was. I understand the reasons for this now, I am unable to control alcohol.

Ramble over. Now i must get off my bum and do SOMETHING!
