  • Hi PBH55 - I am sure you will find the forums very supportive and just wanted to wish you luck on your journey. I find that creating a list on mysupermarket.com and letting it tell me all the places I could save money has helped improve my shopping bill - regardless of whether I print it out or send it online to Asda to be delivered. Hope that helps....

  • Thanks Savingholmes I'll try that I'm a real novice to all this!!! If I could reduce my grocery bill I would be able to pay a lot more off my debts.

hi and welcome to the boards, i'm not a 20 something either, i'm with elantan, keep surprising myself when i say 37.
sounds like there's lots of brave souls starting with quidco this week, i joined years ago but was never brave enough or trusting so didn't do anything, but this week i sorted the house insurance, and not only saved £100 on my renewal quote but may get £80 back from quidco. Keeping my fingers crossed as i still don't quite trust it will happen.
  • Hi LT

I'm like you and dont expect to receive anything - I,m not usually lucky with things like this but heyho it's worth a try! I'll be doubly delighted if I get some dosh.

I've now got to go and cook something & I don't know what - not in the mood would have normally phoned for an Indian on a Friday night.

MSE me WILL NOT give in to temptation ........... will I?

    xx

most people seem to be in their 20s. I'm 49 (but still 21 on the inside) and feel a little bit embarrassed that I'm faffing about paying off debt at my age when I should be saving

I am in my twenties and starting my own family. It is comforting to hear that people of all ages are thinking, and worrying about the same things I am. I have the same debt worries as my own Mother and we often sit down and share our ideas and thoughts with each other.

Poorbuthappy55 - Hope everything goes okay with quidco. I hav recently joined and changed my electricity provider which has given me £62 (pending until the switch has been confirmed). Made a purchase through play of around £8 and nothing has appeard for that though. Fingers crossed though £62 and a saving on my bill would be great!

  • Hi Bisselljk1986

Thanks for posting. It's so easy to get into debt and then even more debt these days that it can happen to all ages for a variety of reasons. At least we have all drawn a line and are now starting to bust that debt!

I had to buy four train tickets and did that through quidco. I hope I've done it properly.

Tonight I am going to list a couple more items on ebay.

PS I cooked dinner last night - no takeaway. Pat on my own back for resisting.

You're making a really good start Poorbuthappy! I agree with your comments to Bisselljk that it's so much easier to get into debt these days. I was only in my early 20s when we started a family and bought our first home. Credit wasn't as readily available then and there was no way I would have been offered a credit card. We struggled at first but no one went without anything and all the bills got paid and we had no debt. Things changed when our finances improved and that is when we started to accumulate the odd debt. It's true the more money you have the more you spend.
