I can't see the point in having disabled bays if they not going to be used by the disabled people. It wouldn't take much to check for badges every now and then. Perhaps we should start a campaign.

I like that TESCO have this policy.
  • I dont have a blue badge but we have had to use the disabled bays on 2 occasions. Both times we had parked in an ordinary space but while in Tesco I had a tonic clonic seizure. Once the seizure is finished I am usually unconscious for at least 30 mins then need to sleep.

So dh went for the car and the closest place to park was a disabled space (Our Tesco has about 30 of these spaces and they are never full) so he parked and came in for me. Both times he carried me out of the store totally out of it and both times he has had abuse. Once a staff member was with him and she was trying to explain to an elderly man what had happened and his reply was " I dont care if she is dead, if you dont have a badge you cant park there"

    Dont you love understanding people:mad:

Blimey sammy - your seizures sound awful. How often do you have one?

  • It varies, I went almost 5 weeks without one then had 3 over 4 days. I tend to get clusters so have a lot in a short space of time.
There are a lot of people worse than me though.

I regularly see disabled badge places abused and Tescos is definitely the worse offender of all the major supermarkets accept Asda as we dont have one.

Sammy whilst technically its wrong to park in a blue badge space without a permit I am sure many of us dont mine if its for genuine emergencies

I understand some people may even have broken legs etc obviously temporary blue badges cant be given either

Not disabled myself although have a daughter sometimes I love a face to face chat with a moron who abuses the system but afraid I may get some looks as I will probably loose my temper hence why I try and avoid confrontation these days as it isnt worth getting annoyed it spoils your whole day.

I just wish those who abuse the system understand not every one has much choice and can have a normal life. I always use normal parking place unless we have our daughter with us which is only a once or twice if that a month. She needs a wide space because I have to be there for when she gets out otehr wise she often falls

I went to Tesco's last night at 8pm There was approximately 8 disabled bays I counted at least 6 cars not having a blue badge and one car even parked dead in the middle of a wide disabled bay so taken 2 bays

To be fair, there is no obligation to display the blue badge in a private car park, so you have no idea whether or not the cars were entitled to be parked there.

Talking of Tesco's, one of their stores in Milton Keynes keeps the wheelchair trolleys chained up, and if you want one, you have to queue up at Customer Services and ask, then wait til someone's available to unlock one for you. Needless to say, I don't shop there any more.

thats probably because they keep getting nicked. went to my local big tescos about a month or so ago asked where they were and i was told they had all been stolen :(
Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?
  • My local Tesco awhile back reduced the number of disabled bays and relocated some to further away from the entrance to allow for more parent and child parking bays. So what happens now is that queues appear all the time to get one of the limited disabled bays.

About the reduction of disabled bays, alot of people complained and they were told the same thing - "we can't please everyone - parents complained that they couldn't get there kids in safely so we have provided them with better parking".

Last week I had to go to Tesco in a rush, all the disabled bays full, and couldn't wait for one to be free, so we parked in a "normal" bay which I haven't done for years (several disabled in my family), have they reduced the width side of the bay, my car is a 306 opening the doors only a foot and we were on the white lines.

Oh another which annoys me is that they put the disable parking with the parent and child parking. So please parents watch and control your children in this area. I've had on several occasions when trying to get out of my parking space for children to be playing behind my car. Parents put the kids in the car then your shopping then go back to put their seat belts on.

Since my nearest large Tesco did this: http://www.thisissouthwales.co.uk/fforestfach/Mum-s-Tesco-fine-fury-sparks-wave-comments/article-964200-detail/article.html

things have been easier in the Disabled and parent/child bays.

Still not enough disabled bays though. Why place the parent/child bays so near to the store? all the majority need is extra space.
