You're obviously giving him too much money if he can afford to buy and insure a renault 5 GT turbo (if that's what you meant).
I'm pretty sure the PCSO didn't make a mistake with the car as they're so unusual to see these days. For anyone that doesn't know its the car that Ali G drives in his films. Although of course not all of them look quite as distinctive as his, but almost.
And I honestly don't see how a 17 year old lad could resist the temptation to drive a car like that a bit stupidly from time to time. Tell him to take it as a slap on the wrist and to drive a bit more sensibly in future. Even if the whole thing was a mistake (which I seriously doubt) then it doesn't really matter as it has no real consequence as long as he drives sensibly.

That's got to be the most self righteous posting I've ever seen. Or are you basing it on how you drive?

What an presumptuous and insulting thing to write. I earned enough money working part time as a 17 year old to insure this car with the price quoted. It's not unthinkable that a 17 year old could earn a reasonable sum of money.

Im really quite shocked by the reaction of the majority of posters in this thread. Everyone is being extremely ageist. I can guarantee you if a 45 year old had written the same thread the reactions would have been completely different. Not every 17 year old drives in a dangerous way. The fact that the car is written wrong is a big deal, if this was on the parking ticket board you'd all be quoting laws as to how this invalidates the ticket.

If I was him I would certainly been looking to take this further. If the PCSO has no evidence of this claim and can't even fill the ticket out correctly I can't see it holding much weight in court.

Except the PCSO wrote the wrong make of car on the notice, didn't get the reg number and didn't stop him at the time - stopped him 3 days later. Perhaps they were told by someone else it was a GT car in which case it could also have been a peugeot. Tenuous? maybe. possible? maybe

Something is definitely not quite right here but it's too murky to work out what. If I was the OP I would also be following it up to find out what's going on. If her son was at fault then fair enough he should accept it and apologise. But if it's mistaken identity then why should her son be given the notice?
Ok that's a fair point, and its a PCSO not a traffic policeman so they're not exactly going to know the intricacies of different models of car.
And to everyone accusing me of ageism, I'm a 17 year old male driver myself, and I'm afraid the insurance company stats show that the majority of my type of driver don't drive very sensibly, hence the £4k insurance premium. I'd like to think I drive sensibly but don't we all. Its not ageism, its the truth, with evidence to show for it.

I've seen people from all categories driving in a bad way, I don't think age comes into it. I agree that 17 years olds policies are more expensive, but I'd be willing to be it's down to the level of experience and the lack of driving history/no claims just as much as the reckless nature in driving.

It was more the 'he's 17 so he must be guilty' attitude which got to me a bit. Just because he's 17, it doesn't automatically make him wrong. He could well be lying, but the PCSO could also have got it wrong.
  • PCSO's do have a power to stop vehicles, but only via foot patrol. They wouldnt be able to stop a car while they are driving a car ( if that makes sense ). We dont need the full registration of a car to pull up the details and the system is very accurate, so maybe in this case they have the right person, but I would see the wrong car make on the letter as being Human error.

As for training, wow... I am halfway through my PCSO training and its fairly intense, so I think the training is enough at the moment!!

The one that doesn't need the registration, the correct make of car, or the fact the driver was elsewhere to still know it was you apparently.

Ooohh I've heard the police on traffic cops etc ask for a partial number plate check or something like that. So they can search the PNC for a car matching the description with only a bit of the number plate. Guess he must mean that.
