What about your iron levels, I have suffered from aneamia a fair few times in the past, and the tiredness I felt then was only rivalled by pregnancy tiredness, where you could literally fall asleep standing up.

Well this is what prompted me to post... My 8 month pregnant friend has just been signed off work for a week because she's been over doing it and is knackered and when she was saying how tired she's been feeling I felt like saying "that sounds like me"!

Perhaps I will trundle off to the doctors. My mum suffers from thyroid issues (can never remember whether it's over- or under-active) so I'd asked them to check that in the past and they said it was normal.

Maybe I'm just a weakling

Oh and what's the issue with iron tablets?
  • I feel tired most of the time, but I have insomnia and have been anaemic for a large proportion of my life, generally get about 3hrs sleep per night if I do a lot to relaxmyself first..Can get a couple more hours on sleeping tablets but have recently stopped them.

I've been a bit of am insomniac since I was 16. On a good night now I get 5-6hrs, but about once a week I get nothing. I have learnt to 'rest' which is nearly as good, but at the moment I am just tossing and turning for about 5hrs a night and getting up more shattered than I go to bed!

I haven't had more than 4 to 5 hours sleep for several years. I swim and exercise and eat more than my 5 a day, take vitamins, had blood tests you name it I've done it. When I have several nights in a row with no sleep I resort to low dose sleeping tablets prescribed by G.P. but judicious use of them is recommended.

More recently faithcecilia I've been taking my ipod to bed and when I'm awake at 3a.m. I listen to one of the playlists I've created especially for sleepless nights. Lovely mellow music and I find myself drifting off though not exactly falling asleep. It's the next best thing and at least the body is resting.

Thank you, I think I will try that for the nights when it is more difficult to get to and then stay asleep :)

I am wondering about getting a relaxation cd? I've had a weeks sleeping tablets, finished them Monday, but while they got me to sleep they didn't keep me there! And no, I don't want to take them long term anyway.

I tried cds both relaxation and mellow music. I found that the music played into the bedroom and didn't have the same effect unless you have earphones attached to your cd player. Also, I've tried the relaxation cds where there is a spoken voice telling you to relax and found that after a few plays I got to know the jargon off by heart and it irritated me so much just had to switch it off!

I keep emergency pack of sleeping tablets but only for those occasions when I haven't had sleep for many nights and desperately need sleep even if only for one night. I did take a sleeping tablet for 7 days running and found that I had to take it quite late at night otherwise I'd be awake by about 4.30/5a.m. but it may be due to them being the lowest dose available.

  • Doctors have an acronym for this TATT. I went to the Dr in my early thirties and his response was yes me too!

It has bothered me for years, however I have come to the conclusion thats some people need more sleep than others. My DH gets by quite happily on 6 to 7 whereas I need more like 9 maybe even 10 to feel even half decent! It has really bothered my DS who is like me and feels hard done to that his mates are fine whist staying up until 2.

10 things you need to know about sleep earlier this year had Dominik Diamond on you can't watch the programme on iplayer, but he wrote this article - on page 2 read about his experiment it was very succesful. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/health/article6255708.ece?token=null&offset=12&page=2 . Colin Espie has written a book overcoming insomnia and sleep problems.

On your other thread you said you ar elosing weight and I read that you can't sleep, someone on the other thread said they thought you should have your thyroid checked, did you manage to do that? They could be stress or anxiety too, but it might be an idea?
