How much sleep do you get each night?

I can't remember the last time I didn't feel sluggish. Getting up in the morning is a real struggle, every morning.
Last night I had about 9 hours sleep and woke up looking like I'd been punched with puffy swollen eyes and big dark lines that haven't gone away all day. I've felt lethargic all day too.
Yet - I get at least 8 hours sleep a night, sometimes more. What is going on? This is starting to get me down. I've been to the doctors about this before and had a blood test for thyroid stuff (runs in the family) and all was normal. With the dark mornings and evenings setting in, I'm not looking forward to battling with this all winter
ETA - I also commute to work and cannot for the life of me keep my eyes open on the train, so I get an extra 45-55 mins then (each way) too.

What do you eat and drink during the day? I have problems with my blood sugar levels and various foods and I know that if I eat things which disagree with me, I feel exactly as you've described.
I know people jump on the intolerance bandwagon as soon as anything remotely abnormal crops up concerning their health but this kind of thing is worth considering.
PM me if you want addresses of reliable testing centres etc.
Your ETA is exactly how I felt when I lived in London. Might be worth getting the doctor to test your magnesium and other mineral levels. I was severely deficient in them.4.30: conduct pigeon orchestra...0 -
I've been permanently exhausted for years and I hate getting up in the mornings.0

i'm the same tbh, haven't been tested recently but have been to the docs about it before and blood tests were ok0

I'd say I have a fairly balanced diet... I've got a sweet tooth and tend to scoff sweets and chocolate given half and chance, but generally try to avoid this as I can feel the sugar highs and lows! I have cereal for breakfast, fruit mid morning, pasta/sandwich/salad/couscous for lunch, then what I call a "normal" dinner - shepherd's pie, grilled chicken and new spuds, risotto. Then perhaps a yoghurt or something sweet-ish for dessert. I deffo get my 5 a day.
What kind of thing should I be tested for? I will PM you about that...0 -
I normally get about 8-9 hours sleep a night. If I have bad periods of sleep (which i often do) then I feel incredibly rubbish and it really effects me. Then I normally end up having an hour or so nap in the afternoons. I do find if I sleep to late in the morning though I will feel groggy and lethargic all day.0

I manage on no more than 6 hours during the week, im out of the house between 6.20 am and 6.20pm with work and commuting so dont feel like doing much after getting home and cooking etc but feel like an early night would be a waste of time so never in bed before 11.30.WHOOOOSHHHHHHHHH……..

I think I need to sleep less... Usually I start thinking about going to bed at 10pm and get up just before 7am and then have a mad rush to leave the house by 7.30am. I would love to have extra time in the mornings and quite often set my alarm for much earlier - then hit the dreaded snooze button! My OH leaps out of bed as soon as the alarm goes off so I take that as my cue to roll over and get some more zzzzz's.
Perhaps I should try 11pm-6am. I'm sure getting up and going for a walk before having a shower would help if I can just do the getting up part. I read somewhere about "practising" getting up (darken a room, get in bed, relax for 10 mins, have the alarm go off and then get up - keep doing it to programme yourself to get up as soon as the alarm goes off until it becomes natural), but haven't had a chance to try that - plus if I get in bed I'm likely to want to stay there - I really am a proper sleep monster. I'm going on holiday next week so once I'm back I'll try and put this all into practice................0 -
Do you snore? These sort of problems ie falling asleep during the day, not feeling refreshed after a nights sleep can be symptomatic of sleep apnoea.0

No, I don't think so... The OH does if he's on his back, but if he gets really bad, I send him in the spare room.
My dad has sleep apnoea though - wonder if its hereditary?0 -
Im like this to. I just cant get enough sleep sometimes and go to bed at 9pm. But sometimes i think its that i also sleep too much. I work 30hours a week and sometimes i get home and im exhausted. I go to bed tired, i wake up tired and im tired all day some days. Ive had 2 weeks holiday off work and just the thought of getting up for work early next week is stressing me. I do eat well so im trying to get myself in a bedtime routine (sounds like im a baby lol).0
