Hi 20vt-rs,
Malc has the day off, so thought I’d get a response to you as soon as I could.
If you are using the quote and switch facility on the website homepage, you will be shown a list of tariffs with the estimated annual bill amount this figure includes discounts.
So you would enter your monthly, quarterly or annual spend, and the results would be based on this information, so you should when entering spend for your current supplier remember to factor in discounts they may offer.
On the results page, If you select the ‘details’ tab beneath the relevant tariff a breakdown of the unit rates and the financial discount amounts is shown.
For customers already with E.ON and using their online accounts the switch facility shows the current tariff details with a list of other tariffs available below. Both the current product and the potential products show you their respective unit prices and discount amounts.

Thanks brian, for my comparison I tool the total gas and elec charges from my bills per 1/4, added up the last years worth and put this in as my annual spend. However I think these figures are not including discount and VAT so I may need to re-calculate these....Mortgage Free Wannabe Light Bulb Moment (Early 2012, started May 2012)

No problem 20vt-rs,
Yeah that's the best thing to do, well remembered about the VAT :T. Just so you know, on an E.ON bill we minus the discount before we add the VAT, so VAT is charged only on the charges after the discount applied.

Hi property.advert,
Currently we remain competitive with all other energy suppliers, and at present I don’t know of any new tariffs being launched. Although I only find out about price changes on the day they happen as well.
A 30% saving is a massive figure, so that’s great news for you :T. Is this from using the comparison sites or did you just compare your current unit rates against the OVO unit rates?
I only ask as I have looked over the comparison websites and can see that the OVO unit rates are cheaper, as is the standing charge, but there is no discount given on top of the price.
I tested this myself, using a few different usage figures (randomly) on a few different comparison sites and I can’t see a 30% difference between our best tariffs and the new offer from OVO.
I just thought I’d ask if you have included the discounts E.ON offer in your calculations, if not the difference may not be so extreme, however if this is right for your circumstances then this is great news.

Hi Brian and thanks for your reply.
I've plugged accurate figures into an updated spreadsheet for the 4 months I've been receiving electric (on economy 7 so no gas) and done some projections going forward for 12 months, factoring in some steep increases over the winter period.
I'll give you credit with Ovo as being only 12.2% over your prices when I factored in your 13.4% and 6% discounts but with yesterday's new tariff from Southern Electric (Go Direct), you are 28% over.
I suspect this is not the end but perhaps the end game.0 -
Im confused, have just done uswitch comparison and I am on eon pp v16 and it ovo come up 3rd my last quarterly bill was 103 gas 274 elec.. have no idea who is best to switch too??0

No, that is not the best thing to do. It is your annual consumption in kWhs not your annual spend that you should be totalling and inputting.
(But no need to add the bills together - all you need is a bill from a year ago and subtract meter readings to find annual consumption.)0 -

What is it that is confusing you?(Remember tariffs are tightly targeted at certain usages. Veer off the target customer base and order of tariffs shuffles chaotically. And using spend or a single seasonal quarter as the input also causes randomness.)

:-( I have totally lost my way with this (two toddlers and cbeebies overload) What is the most accurate way to work out my usage to get the best results from the comparison sites and if its annual consumption where would I find that figure?0
-
Take a bill from about a year ago. Look at the readings. Check readings on meter today.
Work out number of days from old bill. Say it's 15 Oct 2008. Today is 18 Sep 2009. 15 Oct '08 to 15 Oct '09 is one year (365 days). 15 Oct minus one month is 15 Sep. Add three days to 18 Sep. So span is 365 - 30 + 3 or 338 days.
So you have readings 338 days apart. Adjust to annual read by (365/338) x readings.
Dang. Never mind. This stuff is much easier to just do than describe. Alternatively you can just telephone your current supplier and ask them to tell you what your annual consumption is!0 -
he he on phone to eon now!! saves using my delicate brain :-) I think a move to southern elec might be best , are they on any comparison sites?0
