EON Capped v15 to ???
Options
As a lot of people, my v15 EON capped product expires on 1st Oct 09, have been offered the new R3 product with greater prices. I've fed my last qtr/ly bill into Uswitch and it says I could save around £220 per year by going to Scottish Power, looking at the KWH comparisons they are quite a lot cheaper than EON, does this sound right? I though most energy suppliers would be similar? I've never really compared before and only swicthed to EON last year due to the hype (all correct) over capping bills. Before I satyed with EDF for 8 years.
Any advice on what others are doing from these products would be great, thanks.

Hi 20vt-rs
Just a quick heads up. We don't give discount on the final bill when you change supplier. Therefore, you need to time a move to keep the impact of this to a minimum.
Also, it can take between 4 and 8 weeks for a transfer to complete. You might want to consider going on to another of our tariffs during this period.
All our capped products carry a premium above standard rates which initially make them more expensive than other tariffs. At the moment we have cheaper options available. These are listed on our website or the comparison sites. Alternatively, give us a call.
Make sure you choose one without a cancellation fee.
Your account will automatically be put on to the R3 tariff when the current agreement ends unless we hear from you.
Would be sorry to lose you 20vt-rs but hope this helps make any change a bit smoother.

Hi Malc,
Thanks for the heads up, so it would be advisable to move from R3 to a standard Tariff once capped finished and initiate a move during this period (if necessary). To be honest I'd rather stay with EON, but if it means saving money it wouldn't make sense... What Tariff is the best value at the moment, or does this ddpend on usage etc? If so I'll make a call tonight to your service centre...
Cheers..Mortgage Free Wannabe Light Bulb Moment (Early 2012, started May 2012)

Hi 20vt-rs
It would certainly be cheaper to move off R3 at the end of your current agreement whilst the switch goes through.
Standard is an option but you may be better with Save Online. This has higher discount and no cancellation fees. However, you will need to register with our website and set up a monthly Direct Debit to be eligible.
If you have already done this then changing tariff is quick and easy. You can do it yourself online or just give us a call and we will do it whilst you are on the phone. You will not need usage details to do this.
There are other options available but these have cancellation fees which rule them out if you change supplier.
Hope this helps but give me a shout if you need any more info. Always happy to help.

Same question really please E-On. I have the same fixed rate, and sorry, will be switching. My next bill is due 22nd Septemeber. Is it best to initiate the switch now (or after the next bill?), and then change to the Save online on 1st October....or can I switch to the new tariff just after the next bill?
Thanks, it is nice that you are so upfront about all of this.....there should be more like you!:beer:O would some power the giftie gie us to see ourselves as others see us.

Hi portchieboy
Many thanks for the kind comments. They are much appreciated. :T
I would say it would be better to start the switch to another supplier now but don't change tariff until 1 October 2009.
Switches can take between 4 and 8 weeks. I have known the odd one go through quicker but this is very rare.
This way, you will have the benefit of your current Price Protection prices, which will now be significantly lower than our more recent tariffs, until the end of this month.
The amount of lost discount will also be reduced as the bill due on 22 September will be fully discounted as it will not be the final bill.
Changing to another tariff after 1 October 2009 until the switch completes will definitely be cheaper than the replacement capped tariff which you will automatically go on.
Save Online has the same unit prices as our standard tariff. Extra discount is available on Save Online but this will not be awarded if you change supplier as above. Therefore, either will do.
Hope this helps but let me know if you need more details. Glad to help.

Thanks again Malc for the info, have just fed my last 12 months usage into Uswitch using my current tariff (v15 capped) against my annual spend. The results are shown below, EON listed Fixedonline v3 as an option, seems only slightly more than I pay at the mo too (£5.39)...
However Scottish Power is slightly cheaper and offer £62 cashback via quidco too... Decisions!Sign Online Dual Fuel V16 »

Malc - One more question, do the unit prices shown on the EON web site include the various discounts or are these added (taken off) after?

To the E-on representative.
For electricity only customers, who do not have a gas supply, are you going to do anything to stop us switching to Ovo and saving an estimated 30% ? Your prices at present are so far off the mark.
Any comments most welcome.0 -
Hi property.advert,
Currently we remain competitive with all other energy suppliers, and at present I don’t know of any new tariffs being launched. Although I only find out about price changes on the day they happen as well.
A 30% saving is a massive figure, so that’s great news for you :T. Is this from using the comparison sites or did you just compare your current unit rates against the OVO unit rates?
I only ask as I have looked over the comparison websites and can see that the OVO unit rates are cheaper, as is the standing charge, but there is no discount given on top of the price.
I tested this myself, using a few different usage figures (randomly) on a few different comparison sites and I can’t see a 30% difference between our best tariffs and the new offer from OVO.
I just thought I’d ask if you have included the discounts E.ON offer in your calculations, if not the difference may not be so extreme, however if this is right for your circumstances then this is great news.

Hi 20vt-rs,
Malc has the day off, so thought I’d get a response to you as soon as I could.
If you are using the quote and switch facility on the website homepage, you will be shown a list of tariffs with the estimated annual bill amount this figure includes discounts.
So you would enter your monthly, quarterly or annual spend, and the results would be based on this information, so you should when entering spend for your current supplier remember to factor in discounts they may offer.
On the results page, If you select the ‘details’ tab beneath the relevant tariff a breakdown of the unit rates and the financial discount amounts is shown.
For customers already with E.ON and using their online accounts the switch facility shows the current tariff details with a list of other tariffs available below. Both the current product and the potential products show you their respective unit prices and discount amounts.
