I got scammed by Paypal too a few months ago - paid the £30+ to bring my balance with them to zero and then closed my account. There's no way I'd ever deal with them again. The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0

How do you protect yourself from this sort of thing? Is it that you only send to verified addresses? It seems if you don't accept paypal you get less for an item but I'm concerned after reading some of the posts in this forum about listing anything high value.0

jertzy wrote:thanks to you all for replying and the web links, The replies from paypal are more or less saying get lost... they do have a debit balance on my account so wonder how hard they will pursue me for it..!
Don't forget to put in a claim of non payment against ebay to clain your FVF back.0 -
I don't get this, I recently got sent a faulty item by a very nasty seller, returned it under the impression that PayPal would give me a refund, but they took a £15 "processing fee" off the amount. They say they will try to reclaim it from the seller when he has funds available (I'm not holding out much hope), but I keep hearing stories like this where people's accounts have simply been put in the red and they send in the debt collectors.
What gives?0 -
PayPal is a terrible service, its been on BBC's Watchdog on a number of occasions recently, they really do need to sort their act out. The problem is though many buyers trust PayPal as 'the way to pay' when using eBay, which is understandable as it does offer them some protection, however sellers are very poorly protected in my opinion, as we see from the OP.
There needs to be a real shake up of the whole service in my opinion but both eBay and PayPal hold very powerful positions with most people just accepting the service.Stuff Happens As Wave of Ambiguity Spreads:cool:0 -

Yes or if I have to send to an unverified address, I send it by signed for delivery.
Alot of people have been altering their item pages since Watchdog, saying if you're paying by cheque, the postage is £a if you're paying by Paypal, the postage is Recorded Delivery or next day signed for delivery. One seller even says on the listing, "did you see Watchdog the other night, then you'll understand!"
It seems to be the only way to protect yourself, the problem is it is getting Ebay a bad rep and alot of people are at risk of losing incomes! My broad mind and narrow waist are slowly swapping places!!0 -
sending to an address using special delivery/tracking is STILL not enough protection as I have been scammed over.
£280 down after sending an XBox special delivery to Wimbledon
No explaination from paypal as to why they have confirmed the reversal of the payment
Another tip I would like widely known which I have only found out this week is that if you sell and the buyer collects they MUST pay you in cash - if they pay by paypal you arn't protected because you haven't posted it to their confirmed address0 -
Paypal again? Geez will people ever learn:rolleyes: DON'T DO PAYPAL EVER
If a buyer wants your item badly enough then they will buy it even if you don't do paypal
My accounts been in the red for months, they won't get their money EVER  If they send court summons to me i'll just say "who are paypal, i've never heard of them"
