Paypal have "reversed" a payment...help!

I received a payment for ebay goods via paypal & then posted the goods in good faith. 2 days later paypal emailed me to say that the payment was "pending reversal" and today they have sent another email to say "We have conducted a review of a payment that you received. In this case, returning the funds to the sender was determined to be the appropriate action, and we have completed a reversal of the payment."
I had already transferred the payment from my paypal account to my bank account. due to the reversal my paypal a/c is now in debit by the amount of the payment. The buyer is not replying to email and is strangely not longer registered to ebay. I did send the item by royal Mail Special delivery, do i get the police in? any ideas what i should do? thanks.

Sounds like you have been scammed. Unfortunately you will have to ring paypals 0870 number but you are more likely to get a timely response. Was the payment a confirmed address?

You've been (or you're about to be) screwed over. Once the money arrives in your bank account, close down your PayPal and tell them to do one.0

Don't ring the 0870 number - go to https://www.saynoto0870.com and check out the alternative landline number which gets you through on the same line but you don't pay a premium phone line fee!
HTH!
scottishspendaholic xMBNA = £4,000 / Next = £925 (approx. tbc on 19/8)
Tesco = £2,910.11 / Smile overdraft = £500

Hi, I am sure most people using this site stopped using BT some years back and now use 1899 or 18185 for their calls in the UK and outside the UK. To call PayPal you should use 18185 and dial 001-402-935-2050 at 1/2p a minute plus 4p connection charge.There is a UK number on saynoto0870 which is 0208-6053000, I have not tried this number. The US number works okay.0

thanks to you all for replying and the web links, yeah it was a mobile phone and it appears i have been conned (and a lesson learnt). Assume it would be pointless ringing the police? The replies from paypal are more or less saying get lost... they do have a debit balance on my account so wonder how hard they will pursue me for it..!
thanks.Jertzy x

thanks.
They will threaten debt collectors and also mark your credit rating as a bad debtor. Until recently I thought that debt collectors was just a threat but an expose in a Daily Mail a few weeks back suggested that paypal have received a warning from the financial authorities about sending in heavy duty debt collection agencies when queries are still ongoing.
