Hi,
See this thread here. BT are offering to waive the connection charge if you are willing to commit to an 18month contract. Call them and ask for the "free reconnection deal" or the customer options team if the person you speak to is not aware of the deal.Regards, Robin.2011 MFW # 34

Hi I am in a similar situation - I don;t want to sign up to an 18 month contract with BT especially as I am trying to sepnd as little as possible whilst still getting a DECENT broadband service - I was planning on going with Talk Talk (as theres no Tiscali Line rental in my area)
Just moved in to 6 month rented flat and phoneline needs "reactivated" - problem is that to reactivate it with talk talk means i have to do it over the phone thus losing out on my £55 etc cashback and every penny counts. Any suggestions???0 -

Talk Talk are not normally interested in reconnecting old lines.
They do connect new ones. http://www.talktalk.co.uk/newlines
Talk Talk will want you to sign up to at least a 18 month contract.0 -
I've moved into my new build house which obviously never has a telephone line connected. BT are asking for £120/£130 connection charge. is this definatley necessary or is there a cheaper alternative?0

BT's standard installation charge is £122.50.dingdong1984 wrote: »I've moved into my new build house which obviously never has a telephone line connected. BT are asking for £120/£130 connection charge. is this definatley necessary or is there a cheaper alternative?
At the moment (at least until the end of December - although the official BT Price List Notice 06/09 which gives the details hasn't been amended yet), they have a free installation offer on if you agree to a 18 month contract and to making at least 10 chargeable or inclusive calls per month.
If you can comply with those requirements, ask for the free installation offer (they are not allowed to offer it to you, you have to ask) but, if you still get baulked, ask for the Customer Options Team and then ask again. Eventually, you will reach someone who knows about the offer.
BT company representative, please will you arrange, as you did last time it was extended, for the end date on the third line of the BT Price List Notice 06/09 'Calling Plans - Line Connection Special Offer' to be updated.
http://www.serviceview.bt.com/list/public/current/Notice09_boo/2-FrameworkImpl337855.htmTime has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Hi Ypaymore
The new line fee also applies to re-starting a disconnected service - the contract term is 24 months though not 18.
Cheers

Well - talktalk is now out as well - I can;t commit to 24 months - I don;t mind signing up to a 12 month contract but as my current rental is 6 months and i don;t know if i will continue after that or not - I can;t take the chance of forking out for 18 months of unused line rental and broadband.
Sky don;t appear to do line rental and broadband unless u take out some form of a sky tv package so at the moment looks like it might have to be virgin at £25 month (£14 broadand and £11 line rental) I am not in a cable area
Why is this so difficult????0 -
Post Office will install a new line (bt type). Costs £107.66.
No min contract, just 15 days notice to cancel, but if you cancel during first 6 months they have a £15 cancellation fee.0 -
So am I understanding this right?
If I move into a flat which already has a phone line I still have to pay a setup charge?
I am moving into a flat the person in there at the moment is using the line and will be cancelling when they leave.0 -

You dont normally pay a connection charge where the line is still in place between exchange and flat, the intl wiring and socket are undamaged, and you can get dialling tone.
The situation you describe should be a simple stop start procedure..0
