I had my eyes (well one of them ) done in November at Optimax Leeds and its brilliant. I only had one done as my near vision is good and I would have had to trade that for distance vision, they werent pushy at all, in fact I thought just the opposite, the surgeon gave me all the negatives, anyway I went ahead and had one eye done so I now have monovision. My dominant eye sees distance vision and my other eye close up. It took me about six weeks for my brain to adapt to this but now I rarely give it a thought. I find night time driving a bit of a nuisance as the eye that wasnt treated has blurred vision on the headlights but it isnt a major problem and I can manage fine, its just that Im aware of it. My brother had both his done there just after me and we both think its great!!!!!
I got a really good deal, although I think it was possibly a mistake on the part of Optimax. At the time they were offering both eyes for the price of one in a clinic in scotland. I emailed them and asked if they would do it for me at a nearer clinic, they said I could go to leeds and they would honour the price. Anyway as I said I only needed one eye done, I opted for intralase which is £300 extra so my total cost was £300 !!!! They deducted the free one off the price so all I paid for was the intralase!!!!
As I said I think this may have been a mistake as when my brother booked they stipulated that if he only needed one eye doing it would still cost him the full price for one. I would recomend Leeds to anyone, I did loads of research before hand and Dr. Samuel who is the surgeon there has a really good reputation. We are well pleased, !!!

I need some advice, my friend is considering laser eye surgery, but she has stringy white stuff coming out of her eyes. She was told its nothing to worry about as its a common problem for a lot of people! I have advised her not to go for laser eye surgery due to these problems. However, she is adamant its nothing to worry about and hates wearing glasses or spending money on contact lenses! Can someone please help to resolve this debate for us.

I went with Optimax in the mid 1990s.

They told me I was an ideal candidate.

Then they frigged up my right eye - scarred the cornea to bits.

Found out last month when I went for a routine eye test and the Optician took a photo of my eyeball that my retina is also scarred.

Got to go to hospital for a more detailed check-up.

Granted techniques in laser surgery have moved on but worth considering that some Dudes get a 'poor' result.

    Hello everyone,
6 days ago I had Lasik Advanced Wavefront CustomVue with Ultralase and its fantastic. I had it done at Optical Express at Bluewater and the service so far has been good. It was quite uncomfortable on the evening of the surgery but since then all I have had is some dryness, but they give you plenty of drops for it. I had the following day off work but went back the next. I have been thinking about having it done for years and now wish I had done it sooner.
The offer a free consultation, so if you are considering having it done go along and ask as many questions as possible.

    Hi Mutley

I get 10% discount at UL through work benefits package but decided I much preferred OE.
They were cheaper even without but you've always got to try wangling for a discount haven't you... so after doing a bit of digging around I discovered that they do a corporate eyecare programme and through this they offer 10% for laser eye surgery.

I made enquiries to my employer asking if they'd sign up for it (doesn't cost them anything) but haven't yet heard anything back (big company so these things take time I guess). But I mentioned this to OE and said they probably would sign up but I didn't know when they'd manage to get the scheme implemented and I wanted my surgery done in the next month or two.... without further prompting from me, the nice advisor lady said she'd go away and have a chat with her manager and see if there was anything they could do for me. Few days later I got a call back saying they'd give me the 10% discount :j

So I'd say perhaps try this tactic ;)

i tried this twice and really pushed my OE adviser - he says nope not possible. even said i have already sent an email to HR about your scheme (which is true) and i can copy OE on it. no comment. I made him go away and speak to his area manager - let see what they say next week.

PIA- I dont quite know what you mean by "walking around normally after 2 days". what were you doing duringthose 2 days. when i had mine done, I "walked normally" straight out of the clinic. I would be rather hesitant about travelling so far for eye surgery. Optical express have been checking my eyes every month for 6 months, and have suggested a retreatment in one eye. All part of the package, no extra cost. This would be difficult to do if you had treatment in another country. even without the retreatment, OE have provided a suberb backup service. All my drops have been included, and I only have to travek to the Trafford centre. Who would you go to for your after care if you had it done abroad?

    Hi,

I had both my eyes done, and so if you understand there was an shell cover over my eyes for a day and I had a rest for another day before continuing on my holiday, nothing wrong with my walk though, and if you are happy with your eye surgery and its back up, brilliant.

I just shared my experience which I thought was a good option. Also, none of people I have known, have had to get a retreatment done.

There is no need to grill into words, I just meant to share this for some people who may be on a tight budget, but do need a treatment.

TO ALL: If you donot like what I have said, pls feel free to ignore it, next time I will be careful of keeping my big mouth shut.

    Thanks,

    Pia
