Wizard, the saying is actually "don't teach your grandmother to suck eggs." It means don't give needless advice to somebody who is already aware of what you are saying. Somebody who considers themselves an expert for example.
The guys are teasing you a bit here so don't take too much notice. What I would say to you though is that a lot of people who come on here looking for advice, myself included at times, are not particularly IT savyy. You did say at answer #9 in this thread 'I never went into detail because I was in the middle of an ICT lesson when I posted.' I think when you are giving advice about something like IT you do have to be careful and give a considered suggestion. There is definitely no harm in giving some thought to a situation and coming back a little later to give a fuller explanation. I do admire your enthusiasm and your expertise. Good luck in your endeavours.Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.

Yeah, MikeMoate offers good advice. Best thing is to detail your response in a simple step by step way. You can often judge from the original post the user's level of computer experience.
Also, there will always be a difference of opinion.
In the above example, the easiest solution would be to find a quick fix (like a Mcrosoft bug/fix report). Something the OP can follow.
In my opinion the best solution would be a reinstall, maybe using XP instead of ME. And configuring the system differently (ie partitions). For the OP though this would probably be too much. They'd need to get someone in to do this.
You've just got to weigh up the benefits of each."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
I didn't try that particularly hard when I had this problem on my XP but I couldn't find anything. But my PC needed wiping any way because I do it once a year so Ive got a fresh system again.0

Look at nLite (for creating the perfect XP install disc), and Acronis TrueImage (for taking an image of a Windows install). Ages back I did a perfect install, got everything just how I like it then took an image. I also update the image every couple of months.
Means I can revert back to an image that is a perfect, clean install within 5-10mins. I've not reinstalled XP for years."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0
