Bookie you have done really well today. :T You have some momentum now, keep plugging away and try not to get disheartened. These things take time, but there are jobs out there for anyone who really wants to work, and is willing to be flexible about what they want to do.

Have you suggested she repay some of the money she has [STRIKE]sponged[/STRIKE] borrowed from you to keep her in food?

Not yet. First of all I'm going to ask for the £80 cash she owes me, then I'll tackle that. She actually brought it up herself a few weeks ago though, saying she'd been keeping track of how much she owed me so she could pay it back. She wants to put it in a savings account for me though so that I don't go manic and blow it on something pointless which I think's a good idea. Especially since she's flexible on what I spend it on, I suggested one of my dream holidays and she was fine with that. I'm not thinking about that until it happens though!

Is there a recipe to be shared? I always make mac cheese using philadelphia as a base for the sauce, saves making a roux for a white sauce which can be a faff!

    http://www.goodtoknow.co.uk/food/387102/Macaroni-cheese-with-artichoke-hearts

A bit faffier than philadelphia but strangely a roux is one thing I can make quite well....

will let you know how this goes down.....I didn't use artichoke hearts (whatever they are!) just more pasta.....

    this will freeze quite well

Mmm mac cheese. I love cheese and I love pasta, so that's a great meal! Don't think I've ever had it when it's not come out of a tin though.

Bookie, make sure you don't get taken advantage of. I know in my voluntary work there's often comments of 'I can't do x, because I work' with the assumption that those of us who don't work have nothing better to do with our time than do all the jobs no-one else wants to do. Hold your ground about having to have time for your things, if they try and guilt trip you point out you've got x amount of applications to do.

  • I have a cup of tea and I'm really, really trying hard not to open the new Baker Ross catalogue which arrived today.
    It's cold again.

Ick to artichoke hearts! I was naughty last night and had takeaway pizza, I ordered the deluxe veg one without artichokes and when I got there he said 'oh yes, the one with extra artichokes'. He was a brave man, never joke with the fat girl about food!

Thanks Ames. I know where I am with my volunteering now and only do what I want to do most of the time. It will dramatically plummet next April and I shall be quite lost! :D

Luc - share!!! How do you make it with Philadelphia? I love macaroni cheese but hate making the roux.

Use half packet of philly - drop into a warm pan and heat until softened, add milk and stir to combine and bring to boil, whack in cheddar or whatever cheese you're using, stir until all melted through, pour over mac and whatever meat/veggies you're adding and bung in the oven. :D:drool:
