Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Monday 14th September. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning all
welcome2.gifflutterbyuk25 and Mythi, good to have you with us.
Lou1981 - well done for making your first chilli!
Bitsy - they are making him so down it really is like a whole different Tris. I have never known him this 'flat' in the 20 odd years I have known him. As for your tomatoes - try THIS - no skinning required and you can use half red if you want, or HERE is a red tomato pickle/chutney.
Mioliere - With that amount of knitting you will have to attach yourself to an actual sheep to keep the wool coming!
kjsam - enjoy your holiday hon and good to 'read' you
moneysaver - Wow, I was tired just reading your post!
Taplady - When I was young I had a kids cookbook called 'My real fun to Cook book' and it had Raspberry Buns in it. God I loved that book! Lost it in a house fire and could never find it in the shops again. We used to invite two friends round on a Sunday and mum would oversee all us kids baking things which we then all ate for sunday high tea.
Earthmother - Your sons choices are SO cool.. Well done on such sensible boys!
Nic1 - I just freeze blackberries as is and then defrost to use as and when..
Well I managed to spend some time out in the garden yesterday and things were desperately in need of watering, the past 6 days of sunshine and no rain have taken its toll despite my OH watering when he could. I picked about another dozen big tomatoes which taste SO good and some more strawberries.
We had a bit of a brainwave this week and yesterday sucessfully managed stage 1. We asked our neighbour if we can use a corner of her garden that almost adjoins ours as a veg patch and she said yes! Next stage is to strim it, take off the grass and throw some compost and horse manure on it so we can dig it over for next spring. Like having a tiny allotment without having to go anywhere!
My OS-iness (thank you Kitchenbunny!) today will be to make cheese and onion pasties and a blackberry and apple crumble. I also have three letters to write to my consultant, my Dr and the diabetes nurse so I may start composing them while I wait and see if Tris logs on. He didn't yesterday...
Hope your week starts well. Warm gentle hugs.giffor anyone who wants one!

    Morning Diva and others.

Another sunny day here, another BBQ...... It may have been the last as I am out of gas and probably won't buy any more this year. Had the neighbours over and my parents, so not too bad an evening. Lots of gnat about though as soon as the sun dips a bit.
I could not sleep too well with all the itching.

Managed to chop a load of firewood yesterday too, so that has to be stacked later.
Work today at 1pm, so some wood stacking, sanding windows and stuff beforehand.

Well folks have a nice day.....

  • Morning everyone, just popping on to say hello before I go to work :) I hope to have an NSD today and realised when getting on the scales I need to lose a couple of pounds - oh well. Planning to clean the kitchen when I get home, if I'm not too tired! Chicken curry for tea as the carnitas and flatbreads were a bit of a flop, to be honest. The leftover pork won't go to waste though; I've put bbq sauce (lots) through it, bagged it into portions and we'll have it as a pizza topping instead.

Have a good day everyone :)

  • Good morning everyone!
I too am off to work shortly. Went to Harlow Carr Gardens yesterday and spent some time in the kitchen garden to try and make me actually look after my 'crops' next year-they were very inspiring. Seemed to cook all afternoon-a small piece of gammon for sandwiches, sausages for dd to take cold with packed linches, a massive shepherds pie, 116 butterfly buns. I was on my feet all afternoon-tghough the mass of washing up was worse than the actual cooking which was very theraputic. I was streaming with cold yesterday but it appears a bit better today. WM on but will unfortunately be asking mum to put in TD before she goes as I need some of it tonight and wont be home in time for it to dry outside.
    Have a good day everyone.

Some office work to do, some housework, will do some washing but at the moment no ironing :j my iron is actually in the kitchen at the moment filled with white vinegar to descale so will empty that out later.

Not sure what is for dinner, on the menu plan its chicken curry but OH is working & I need to take DS kickboxing so am out from 6pm - 7.45pm. Bit of a pain so will have to have a rethink.

Home hairdresser coming this morning :Tam looking forward to that.

  • Morning everyone.

thanks for the receipes MSD :D

My wee boy starts nursery this week. I shall be helping him to settle in today so DD will spend the afternoon at my mums. Got to pop up to Hobbycraft and get some buttons for a cardi that my mum knitted for DD. I don't knit or sew, I am just awful at it :o
Must pop to the supermarket and get some bits for the weeks meals etc.
Going to have a look at the flylady thread and see what's on the list for today and try and get some of it done :D
Tea tonight is savoury sausage bake, basically pasta, tin chopped toms, sausages cut up, broccoli and lots of cheese :D
Anyway I'd better get a move on and get organised. Need to make sure DS bag is packed with extra pants and clothes, he's getting very lazy over his toilet habits so need to make sure I have everything with us.........
Have a good day OS or not.
Hugs to those that need them.

    Morning all,

Its chilly here this morning, but looks like it might brighten up later, I need to wash dd's bedding, she changed it yesterday.

I have 2 viewings on my house today, I had sold it after three days, and that woman still desperatly wants to buy it, but her chain has broken down, so I am really hoping one of these people today like it.

So I need to drop the dog up to my mums, and come back and have a good clean and tidy through, its not too bad, but I always go mad when someone is coming to look :o

Yesterday i made a batch of fairy cakes and a weetabix loaf, and a batch of roasted vegetable cous cous with veggie ham in for dd's lunch, she will also take an apple and a hm cake.

Later on I am meeting up with three friends for lunch at a cafe on the beach, to try and make the most of the sunshine.

May do sausages for tea, with mash and veg.

Sistercas, I do hope your girlies recover soon.

    Have fun all xx

N9eav, is BBQ gas something that is likely to go up in price over the winter? Or does it generally stay around the same cost? We're looking at buying a gas BBQ, and wondered whether better to got one now & store it, or get one next year.....although BiL cooks their Christmas turkey on his, so OH may want to have one by then!

    Morning :)

Hope you are all well :)

Oh and I did role reversal thing yesterday, in that I sat on the sofa and did nothing as I didn't feel too well and he spent the day in the kitchen :rotfl: I'm sure I will spend this evening clearing it up though. He made an apple cake with the rest of the cooking apples we'd been given and dehydrated the rest.

I made some pear and fig chutney with the pears we apppropriated and even managed to throw in the nasty nasty jar of sainsbury's onion chutney that has been lurking in the cupboard - the pear and fig chutney is very very strong (and there is loads of it) so masks the very weak taste of the sneaky addition. I couldn't bring myself to throw it out, but quite honestly it was evil.

I made cheese straws too :) Dinner was whoopsied mushroom burgers :)

I was bored yesterday evening so I knitted some sushi. I'm not sure why I thought to do that, or indeed what I am going to do with the result, but it looks kinda funky :) I might make some more, if I can figure out how to knit prawns.

Have a good day all, cel x
