    Does it really matter?

Why are so many people getting annoyed by such little things?

I've had ebay photos "stolen" from me in the past - I just think "good luck to them". I've sold my item, made a little profit, and someone has got a bargain. If someone who doesn't have access to a digital camera wants to use my old photo - then, as I said before, good luck to them.

I reported someone once for doing it, infact that item it happened twice on and got them both removed.

I was so annoyed about it as I was the first person to list that particular item on ebay and when the others popped up a few days later with my distinct photo (bright coloured item against the dark green of my grass in the back garden!) it made it look as though I was selling several of the same item and therefore I thought bidders would bid less thinking they had a chance on my others (that weren't actually even mine)

Ebay removed them, the one that copied the text aswell as the picture annoyed me, he changed the picture, but swapped the words round on the entire listing eg where I had put "suitable for outdoor and indoor use" he changed it to "suitable for indoor and outdoor use" and did this for everything I had written in the entire listing. bar steward. I know there is only so much you can write about an item, but it was identical to mine, same layout, phrases etc

I got a fantastic price though and he didn't do half as well, that's karma for you :D

Well if you lose a sale due to the other listing yes it does. If you spend the time taking the pictures why should someone else profit? I now watermark all my images. Also if someone thinks you've stolen the photo (even though its the other way around) it coul effect your reputation.
  • Even more annoying when they steal your photo and put their name on it...had one guy do this to me several times...we obviously bought from the same source....I reported them a few times and they changed their name but I could still track them under their other name. And to p*** me off they would take their own photos but copy exactly how i laid the items out....Jerk!!!
Never put off until tomorrow what you can avoid doing altogether.:D

    I've been Money Tipped!
I've reported 2 listings for copying-everything the same down to the colour and size of text.

One of them upon relisting, apologised to previous bidders saying that ebay had ended his listing for no reason whatsoever! The new listing finally had their own photo, still my text chopped and changed round but it all sounded silly the way he'd re-written.

Will keep on happening so I just do a check once a week to see if anyone has been cheeky.

For me, it does matter. I spend a long time taking photos, pinning the dress for a perfect fit et etc and writing a description in order to try and obtain the best possible price for the item.
It is annoying that somebody just copies and paste because they are lazy.
Also, the photos they use, will be of your 'item' and not theirs.
can be misleading if the item they are selling is not as in good condition as the original listing

I agree its not fair when you have taken time to take the pictures and select the correct wording to sell an item successfully and other people just take them without permission. In my case the seller had the belt missing as I said before claiming she had lost the belt after the picture was taken, this is very misleading to buyers who would assume from the picture that the belt is included.

It does if you're a business seller - someone (ie me) gets paid to take artful photos, someone (ie me) gets paid to write witty and appealing blurb, someone (ie me) gets paid to keep on top of feedback and customer service and competitiveness and take a lot of (well, some ;)) abuse from hagglers and whiners and illiterate buyers who shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a written contract. Someone (ie me) also gets a right royal @*&$ocking if any of those get compromised. eBay for some might be a nice little pin-money jolly hobby, for others it's the thin line making the difference between a wage and JSA. You can't judge everyone's concerns on the same yardstick.

Does anyone know how long it takes once you have reported a listing for them to remove it? As I reported the listing last night for the violation and it still hasn't been removed and the listing ends tonight.

Report it again, it should be removed although it may take time and if its about to end might not get removed in time. I have never been asked to prove my copyright when reporting a listing as copying my listing or photos.

Many people want to buy items that they have seen the actual photos of hence why items with real photos often sell for more than stock photos.

If you take pride in your listings and photos why should someone steal your hardwork and a competitor to boot.

Lastly its not allowed on ebay, so report them.
  • I've reported a few people in the past, Ebay removed their listings and e-mailed me to say that I should contact them first. I always e-mail them and ask them if they know that it is against Ebays rules to copy someone elses picture, sometimes they don't realise.

Thanks, they did remove it just before the listing ended. I agree I was annoyed due to the fact my listing was popular and had quite alot of interest. I spent alot of time to check I had fully given the best description and the pictures were the best angles of the dress, so by them duplicating my listing could have effected the selling of my item. If you put the hardwork in other people should respect that.

    Thanks for everyones' help! :)
  • I once reported someone for using my images and ebay removed MY listing instead. The other seller had obviously seen my pictures and thought they were better than their own, edited their listing and swapped the images for mine. The response from ebay was that as the other listing had started first I must have copied their images. This was despite the date being visible on the pictures I took matching the date I started my listing and my having a piece of paper with my user ID showing at the edge of the image.
I was annoyed because it was detailed images of an expensive handbag showing the small details for authenticity. The other member could have used my pictures to sell a fake.
