Please help me - keep getting virus warnings

Options
If anyway can help me with this i will be eternally grateful.
I bought a Toshiba laptop about a month ago and within 2 weeks it said i had a virus and trojans and it wouldn't let me do anything with it until i downloaded antivirus software, which i had to pay for!
Anyway, i paid for the antivirus and everything was fine until tonight when it says i have trojans and viruses again so i tried to look for the antivirus software that i downloaded the other week and cant find it anywhere. I have now downloaded Avast for free, but Windows Protection Suite is still telling me i have a virus and to pay again to get it removed. Does anyone know what i can do. Do i still have the viruses or is this computer safe to use?
Any help will be gratefully received.

It sounds like you have an rogue antivirus programme, it tells you have viruses when in fact you possibly don't and the programme demands payment to remove the false viruses it displays.

Download Malwarebytes and update it before running a scan.
  • Sorry to be a pain, but i dont know what malwarebytes are and how do i do a scan? Sorry, but i am not technical at all. So does this mean that i can ignore the prompts when they keep popping up? Also, the antivirus i paid for a few weeks ago, should i be worried they have my bank details? Was it a scam?

  • I second fiddiwebb's post. You have most likely been a victim of the fake anti virus scam.

Yes you are the unfortunate victiom of a fake program.

When you have cleaned your PC with the above suggestion, Download and use Avast or AVG as your virus protection, both free and easy to use.

Contact your card company you might be protected from this kinda fraud and get your money back, the bank might be able to reverse the payment.

The OP has Avast already, I would avoid AVG, personally I would go for Avira ;)

Avast and Avira are both excellent programs - it just boils down to preference in the end.
