But you paid the fare? OMGZ

Well yes .. It is a civil dispute . I needed to sort my baBY for bed , my husband was upset and did not want me to go to the police station as this was 20 miles away .. leaving me stranded again ..

    Pray tell what is OMGZ?

And yes I paid the fare as I saw this as being the only way to resolve this at the time and I informed the driver I was disputing the fare.. What exactly is your point...

The private hire driver had a 22 mile round trip , so the fare seems correct
if he only charged you from pick up to drop off the price wouldn have been approx £8 ish . would you expect the driver to drive 22 miles for £8 , would you ? for god's sake you havent been done , I hope yu gave him a tip as well

So what if he had to drive to the fare , thats what taxis do aint it , and the controller could have always said no . And no I wouldnt have given the driver a tip due to him driving with no due care and attention whilst using his mobile.. read the First post.. This is why he has an appointment with the licencing mamanger and a incident logged with the police the following week... So why should I tip someone for putting me and my family in danger and ripping me off in the process...

What is there to stop the taxi driver denying he was talking on the phone, he could claim it is one disgruntled family bearing a grudge. Oh, and I saw a taxi driver the other day smoking as she was driving, I thought that was against the law also, (yes she did have passengers).

A PH company or driver cannot charge more than the (hackney) meter tariff set by the local council, unless a price has been agreed beforehand. If a meter is used then that is the fare you pay.

The rate applies to the type of vehicle sent, i.e. if vehicle was Hackney Plated then a hackney badged driver and hackney rates from point of contact to turn off the meter apply. Unless you agreed with the driver at point of contact a set fare for the journey. The meter should NOT have been turned off without your agreement.

Ask you local council licensing officer for a copy of T&C's that apply to drivers/companies
  • Must say I'd put it down to experience.

You couldn't pay me £12 (half the fare, the amount you want refunding) to worry about it enough to vent on a forum AND follow it up to such an extent.

Just about all wrong, any phone booking is a PH and the cost CAN NOT be regulated by the local council. Regulated HC fares only apply where the cab is “plying for hire” and you flag it down. PH cars can use a meter if they want to, and they can charge what it says on the meter or more or less BECAUSE they are not regulated.

Normally the fare is agreed when you phone, if it’s not then I guess normal contract law would apply in that they could charge a “reasonable” rate for the job. In the case of the OP this would be the cost of the miles the cab covered whilst doing her job i.e. the round trip rather than the short distance she was actually in the cab.

If you call a cab from an office which is 10 or 20 miles away to take you half a mile down the road you must be mad if you only expect to pay for the half mile journey at normal HC rates

And if the cab firm doesn't explain that on the phone, and that there will be a charge to drive to the start point then they must be mad.

Your husband didn't help? He was too 'upset'? Dear god. OMGZ - 'Oh My God' Did she really pay that much?

You should have got out of the car and walked away.

Small claims , local press, review boards i think .. you may see me as being petty ..but they upset me and took advantage of a very delicate situation.

A bit over the top isnt it?

He was helping with my son who was upset . He wanted me to pay and go .. I am stubborn, I was being held to randsom. I wasnt the booker but I was the hirer the price was not agreed with me , as for going over the top , I expect an explanation and possible refund. Why should taxi companies have no regulation . All I want is an explanation. As for the taxi company being a distance away .. it was the closest company . Isnt this forum about saving money and getting money back which is yours ..

Aws i will stress, I didnt agree the price . My freind didnt agree the price , I have asked her , she is one of the most honest ( even more tight with money than I am ) people I know , she would never agree to the fare unless she talked to me . IM entitled to havingn a safe journey . The cab companies loggs will say it all if the driver denys it ..
