If you're going down that road then electric is an adjective, electricity is the noun you were looking for. :P

Electric meter, electricity meter, both the same in most peoples minds,(they measure something, as does the taxi meter), whereas I politely pointed out that metre was not what the poster was meaning, they meant meter!
I really don't care about this adjective/ noun nonsense, not a lot of people know which or where to use each, nor do they care.

None of my posts have been directed at you, the post you have just responded to was directed, politely, #28 at another poster confusing metre and meter, I am in full agreement with you OP and think you have been ripped off.

If they record phone calls then all will be revealed. If it was a bad line they will know ..

I may speak to my colleagues in Surrey .. See where i get. TBH if he did loose his licence I wouldnt care . A resonable fare for the trip would have been a tenner . I dont expect a company to take a fare they dont want.

Driving whilst using a mobile phone is an endorsable offence , £60 fine ( I think) and three points.. Plus I can report the company for not providing handsfree.

Sod it I'll talk to my colleagues tommorrow . See what they say.

I was held to randsom , i would have gone to the policestation if it was not for my hubby and son as well. I am really strting to dispise this company ..

    Nice

not just yet , the driver has an appointment with the licencing officer about his driving..

I have emailed the company and will wait a few days for their response , then ill post the letter by recorded and see where I get.

No where probably so I will have to check out my opinions i think .

Small claims , local press, review boards i think .. you may see me as being petty ..but they upset me and took advantage of a very delicate situation.

A taxi fare begins when you get in the cab, a private hire is booked by phone and is entirely different. Advice is to agree the fair in advance as private hire fares are NOT regulated by the local council.

Re the meter, private hire can use any method they like for working out the fare, ideally it is agreed in advance although our council that taxis can (not must) use the meter if they want to when on private hire

It now turns out that it was about a 22 mile round trip for the driver so £24 doesn’t sound so unreasonable. I live out in the sticks and on the rare occasion I go out clubbing my ride home is the same sort of distance and takes about 20-25 mins to get from club to home so about 45 min round trip for the driver. Last time I did it it cost me £20.

    /QUOTE]

Well round here it does not matter where you come from, (black cab or private hire), the fare starts when the customer is made contact with, (I did some black cab and PH a few years ago so have experience the way they work), there was one fare they did,(as PH), which involved a journey from the office of about 5 miles, and the fare was only a distance of about 1.5 miles, and that is all we could charge, can't remember why they continued to do the job,(it was a regular one), but no one liked doing it, they use meters and the meter was always turned on once we had made contact with the fare.

It could be when a PH fare is taken the nearest vehicle could be round the corner, or if a quiet night at the office, you cannot charge to make the journey to the customer, unless you arrange so at the time of booking, personally I would never agree that, and the times I have called a PH to my house, (and the last time was about 4-5 weeks ago), the fare starts when I get in the vehicle.

The private hire driver had a 22 mile round trip , so the fare seems correct
if he only charged you from pick up to drop off the price wouldn have been approx £8 ish . would you expect the driver to drive 22 miles for £8 , would you ? for god's sake you havent been done , I hope yu gave him a tip as well
