Depending on their current condition and how well you polish them, the finish could almost appear to be gold.

  • Hi all, I have a woolen jumper (recently bought from a charity shop) and the label says 'steam clean only'. However I am tempted to put it through the wool cycle on my washing machine. Will this ruin it? I have a 'dry clean only' dress that I put through the delicates wash, and it always seems fine!

if it's ok to be cleaned with steam then I'm assuming that temperature is not the problem and that the thing to avoid is friction, rubbing etc. This being the case I'd suggest hand washing as gently as possible
  • Thanks very much for this, I'll give it a go. I think you're right re. the friction as it has quite a bit of bobbling on it already!

    Hi
I am planning a mega clean tomorrow as i have a house viewing on friday and one on saturday ( i normally keep the house really clean but i always like to spend a few hours before someone views ;) )
Can anyone think of anything that should be done the day before .... anything need soaking etc ???
I have washed the bedding read to put on friday morning before work.
The viewers on friday are due straight after i finish work - so i dont have much time friday, hence doing it tomorrow.
    Any tips most welcome ...

gd luck with the viewing, what I would suggest is start at the front door, walk around as if this was the first time you'd seen the house and jot down bits that you'd look for, some people might look for dust on a door ledge. Check that theres nothing blocking doorways, and also nothing chucked into built in cupboards _ kitchen units are tidy, - becuase there be looking for space.

Kitchen try and keep the units free of too many items as it looks like the units are big enuf.

Also say a bottle of wine and box of chocs, so sat ngt you can take a deep breath and have a relax,

Good luck with the viewing xx

Hi mumoftwins, sounds like you keep a nice clean house but I would suggest going round all the ceilings with a feather duster to get any stray cobwebs, amazing how quickly they form and they make a house look dusty even if you dusted yesterday.
Go outside an take a look at the house from the street, is the path swept and the front door, is it clean? I'm sure you have thought of that but suprising how many don't, if you can, get a pot of flowers by the front door too.
Go through your front door and ask yourself "how does my house smell?" Clean? great, baking, fresh coffee, super but might make viewer supsicious as its so well known now from house selling shows. Don't go mad with air freshners, a lot of people don't like synthetic scents, just open the windows for a while.
A few fresh flowers in one or two rooms are nice and you can enjoy them for the rest of the week.
When I was buying our house, I noticed, tidyness (suggests plently of storage space) general cleanliness (not going to find filthy carpets on the day I move in) and generaly a nice homely feel. Remeber its not a hygine inspection don't kill yourself. Relax, smile and make pople feel welcome, we still talk about the house where we had to take our shoes off and walk on plastic runners through the living room, plus the big hoha she made about the Schriber kitchen with breakfast bar that blocked entry to the rest of the kitchen (in our opinion) the stink of cigarette smore upstairs in the home office and the trains that ran through the back garden which we were told you couldn't hear! If she had been a bit more honest and a bit less ready to show off we might not have noticed much of this or decided it didn't matter.
    Good luck with the viewings

I just wanted to say don't stress about it too much, - it's the house itself they will be looking at, not whether there might be a little bit of dust somewhere :)

    Thanks for the tips
I was going to mow the lawn (did it 7 days ago) but it just keeps raining. We don't have a breakfast bar, don't smoke and live close but far enough away from train lines (10 min walk) so hopefully we wont be to bad.
    Thanks again
