Washing lines want normally take weight of a rug unless it a light one, I know my old one broke. Now have a steel line with plastic on it but even then wouldn't use a rug over a washing line unless is a small light rug
My mum used to be able to put her living room carpet over the washing line. I dry my big canvas tents on my line! I use old fashioned braided cotton washing line though supported by the old fashioned cast iron poles. Maybe modern lines are just wimpier!Val.0 -

Hello All
I wonder if anyone can give me some advice. I have searched through the index and been unable to come up with anything.
Does anyone have any advice on cleaning lamp shades (the fabric type ones) I have tried dusting them but seems to make them worse
Any ideas? What do you do?
Thank you in advanceGoal - We want to be mortgages free :j

Vacuum cleaner with upholstery brush/nozzle. Its a fun job if you haven't done it for a while...but it makes one feel dreadfully bad a housekeeper!0

I hoover mine with the upholstery brush and very soft suction. My sister uses a big clean blusher brush to dust them downwards. Both methods seem to work.Val.0

I sometimes use those sticky roller things to give them a quick do. The ones on the ceiling I do with an attachment on my Hoover.0

I've got a cheap version of this:

I think that I got it from the reduce department of my local Lakeland.
I think that the OS version would be the compressed middle of a piece of white sliced bread
I know that bread used to be advised for cleaning marks on wallpaper. You get a bit and roll it over the dirt, discarding it as it gets dirty0 -
WOW these are fab thank you all. Never occurred to me to use the vacuum cleaner doh!!! Will be trying these out tomorrow.
Also very interested in those thinks from John Lewis / Lakeland would be handy if just having a dust and not getting the hoover out. Will check them out next time im in there.Goal - We want to be mortgages free :j

I bought a rubber brush a few years ago, I think it was from kleeneze or betterware, although I bet Wilkinsons will have such a thing.
These work well, I think they are really meant for pet hair so they "pick up", IYKWIM
Otherwise, gradually replace them for glass type fittingsor fabric shades

Yep, vacuuming for me too, I only discovered it a week ago and it's great even if the dirt's been on there a while (and got dusted in!).0
