Gold Trader Direct

Options
I saw the adverts on TV and thought I'd send in a couple of pieces.
I phoned them on the number provided to ask how they tell you how much the cheque is for but it goes straight to answer phone so I left a message. Today having sent the envelope last week I recieved a very small cheque which really wasnt worth the effort so this time emailed them saying please send back my gold. The reply says their terms and conditions specify that all gold is smelted the day they recieve it unless you write quote on the envelope ( which they have already filled in). I asked where that was on the letter they sent me, to which they said it was on the internet. This is just a warning to others not to get stung in the way I did, the weight of the gold they claimed was under 3 gramms yet the post office weighed it and said it was 12gramms.There is nothing I can do but warn others to be careful as these adverts are all over the tv at the moment

  • Thanks for your report on Gold Trader Direct. There seem to be many companies with the same or similar sounding names. Which one did you use?
Two names come to my attention Gold Trader Direct of Birmingham or Gold Trader of Swindon.

There ought to be a law against these magpies.
  • There was a report on Breakfast news this morning about selling gold. There advice was to shop around as there can be a big difference in prices quoted.

moses1, I'm sorry to hear that you've been 'done' by this company - but I just can't understand how anyone would stick jewellery in an envelope and send it through the post in exchange for cash without any dialogue about the amount to be paid.

Didn't they even get back to you in response to your query about how much?
That would have rung alarm bells to me immediately.

If I have any gold to sell, I'll check various sites on the internet for ideas of prices for whatever carat of gold/weight I have, then visit jewellers in my home town personally.
If I don't feel I'm offered a good deal, I'll keep my gold.

I've noticed adverts with a new twist on 'sell your unwanted gold' - pawn your jewellery and they'll give you a loan.
  • Hi moses1

Sorry to hear that you didnt have a good experience with the company you went with. I have to admit i had a good experience myself. I was sooo soo happy i got £100 for some odd bits of jewlery that my grandma gave me yeeeeaaars ago and i just would never wear them . make sure that the company you go with has insurance on stuff you put in the envelope and also that you will be able to get your gold back if you're not happy with the offer. Some postal gold companies are good like that.

I dont remember the name of the one i sent my gold to i typed in google search engine something like postal gold.

That is such a Spam post

Do not send your gold to Postal Gold, you will often find the best price from your local jewellery or pawn broker, as always shop around

What exactly did the post office weigh and what type of gold was it?

To be honest anyone with any experience of buying and selling gold would never use these companies no matter how desperate, it's this that the prey on. That and individuals false expectation of what their wares are worth.
