LTSB have refunded me the £30, I didn't even ask, I just started talking about it.Happy chappy0

I've just checked my online accounts and I'm £42.50 better off today than I was yesterday morning. Worth phoning.Happy chappy0

Update: I've just been charged another £25 because the account was OD for 2 days when the original paid item went through.
I'm on the phone now - 1st operator said that they couldn't refund so I've said that I want to close all of my A&L accounts. I'm on hold for retentions dept now.Happy chappy0 -
OP I am in the process of a charge dispute with A +L for a different reason ie moving money to their online saver and inadvertantly going overdrawn for a day. They charged me £25 which was eventually refunded. They have, two weeks later, charged me another £25 as a follow-up charge. I have started to dispute this as an unfair bank charge re the advice on this BB
I have also sent a recorded letter to close my 3 accounts with them and I have already started to withdraw a few thousand £ by writing a cheque into my smile account. Incidentally 35 trouble-free years with smile/coop.
I have also had my DH write a cheque from his A+L account into smile and he will be closing his three accounts as soon as mine is done. I don`t care about losing the paltry interest but I do care about their poor customer care. I wouldn`t touch this bank with a bargepole
Tom I have just read the post above. Identical problem to me. I was left on hold for ages and they promised a return call, which I didn`t get so I sent the recorded letter this morning0 -
Well, eventually I was put through to a branch where I explained my situation. I was then put on hold and after a few minutes the woman asked whether I'd stay with A&L if they refunded the £25 fee, to which I said yes.
It should be refunded this evening hopefully.Happy chappy0 -

Is this a Premier Direct Current Account? If so, I was under the impression that going overdrawn for a day was not charged. At least thats what I understand from the charges laid out here for monthly unauthorised overdraft charge.

Perhaps you are referring to a different account with different charges, but I agree with the general theme that you have to watch A&L like a hawk. I've just gone o/d as a result of a similiar mistake to yours and am hoping that as it will be for only 1 day - they won't charge me.0 -
Wasn't sure where this should go, and didn't want to start new thread! Just opened an A&L account, switching from Abbey. A&L agreed to arrange everything, including all direct debits, etc. I've just realised an error has been made and a monthly transfer of £325 has been paid out from my (old) abbey account, AND my new A&L account. This has happened for 3 consecutive months, so potentially I am £975 out of pocket!! Is this the fault of Abbey or A&L? Anyone else experienced this? I have looked in the smallprint and can't see anything about what happens if they get it wrong. Any ideas?? Thanks!0

Update to my previous post.
Have just found out i've been charged a £25 paid item fee. So you get hit with this charge first the moment you overdraw, and if your account is o/d for more than 1 day, you then get hit for a further £25.
Been onto them, and like others, half the charge is to be refunded. Pushed for a full refund, but told I would have to write a letter that they would consider.0 -
Started another thread, but this not inappropriate here either!

A&L have a policy of paying debits before clearing credits. I discovered this when I set up a one off payment to go out on a particular date, and also arranged to transfer money from my A&L savings account into my current account on the same day, to cover the one off payment.
The next time I checked my statement I had a £25 charge on it for being overdrawn even though there wasn't a negative amount anywhere on the sheet! When I rang they told me that because of their practice of making payments first, I had overdrawn...!
As you can imagine, I was well p'd off with that, and as I was a new customer they agreed to refund the charge 'on this occasion' and said that for future reference I should make the transfer the day before!
When I opened the account I opted not to have an overdraft as I can manage my finances well enough not to need one, but since the above happened I decided I'd have one to protect me from A&L's ineptitude.
