I now shop at tesco, where I can get a lot of r&r, but does anyone know if they accept sainsburys vouchers? Have tried and been refused in 1 store.

This store also refused to accept internet vouchers, with the excuse that they could have been photocopied rather than printed, and that the bar codes (where present) wouldn't scan.

As far as I am aware, the Tesco I work at will only accept vouchers if:
    1. They have a barcode (except milk/luncheon vouchers etc).
    2. They are non store specific or are:
    a. From Tesco and you have the correct product.
    b. From Sainsburys and in the format £X of £XX, not 10p of Heinz etc.
    3. They are in date.
    4. Not copied/obviously home printed.

Tesco woun't take more than 10% in vouchers unless you, say, have 6 coupons for coca cola and buy six bottles of coca cola. Like wise they will not accept more than one type of any given voucher including newspaper ones with different dates unless you buy one or more of the product.

But as mentioned if you find the 'right' checkout operator who either doesn't give a rodents rear end (look for the one chatting to mates or near closing time) or is inexperienced or just thick (part time, but look out for the students who actually give a damn).

The cashier shouldn't get in trouble unless he blatently bends the rules, ie lets you have several boxes of wine for 1000s of pledge coupons. This is because training is often ad-hoc and written voucher policies are often out of date and are only updated in the weekly 'team 5' which new memebers of staff would miss. New staff are more likely to check with a team leader/other staff memeber though so don't always try to pray on the new staff.

    My 0.02£ anyway.

    Hi WELSH-DRAGON

I've just tried to PM you but your inbox is full :)

I've got a printable voucher for Purina One catfood - buy one get one free. Do you know of any supermarkets in the Cardiff area that still take printable vouchers?

    Thanks very much
    Dan

i went to Asda today and used £4.25 worth of coupons through the self scan and the assistant came up and said she couldn't allow it as i was only allowed to use 10% of my total which was just over £20 ...she said had got into trouble the previous week of her supervisor for allowing it....so i asked if i could have my coupons back ..to use for another shop and opened up and gave me £2 ...not really fair when others are saying they manage get around 60 % or more of their total shop spend

but as they say the rules vary from store to store

I thought I was living in the twilight zone when I saw how old the posts are on this thread until I saw yours dated earlier today!

Definitely find yourself another Asda. I went to one once sometime last year and I had three SA's come out of the woodwork who all pounced on me when I tried to use my coupons at the self scan. My coupons were all within date (I wouldn't try anything else) and non specific so could be used anywhere. All three SA's brought the supervisor over and all four then 'had a go at me' for using them. They said I could only use a couple that were valued about 15p or 20p and no more than that. You also have to get them approved in advance by the supervisor. Needless to say, I never shopped there again. I then found another Asda where i don't get any problems at all.

I have found Asda quite good with my vouchers - but the amount they are willing to put through does vary from assistant to assistant. I usually go late to my 24hr store (after 10pm) and find the staff more willing to take - mainly students doing the night shift. One girl said she would take everything i had and another advised it should always be 10% but said she would put them through. I dont force the issue, as it pays to be nice and wouldnt like anyone to get in trouble over it!
  • I find it staggering to believe someone is kicking off because ASDA refused a Sainsburys voucher, here's a strange one - how about using an ASDA voucher in ASDA and a Sainsburys voucher in Sainsburys? people abusing the system is what makes the supermarkets clamp down.
My local ASDA refused to allow me to use more than 2 coupons the other day for products that i was actually buying, they also stopped me from using a £5 off George Baby clothing voucher which was given out by them!
I complained and just got an email back saying they'd reiterated the voucher policy to the staff.
I dont believe i've ever seen this voucher policy & nobody can provide it.

A few months ago I took in some internet coupons to my Asda and they were and the till lady asked her supervisor before accepting them. A week later I went in and they were rejected and the superviser (a different lady) said they hadn't accpted them in over a year! I was totally embarressed.
On another occaison I took an internet coupon in and the superviser guy had the nerve to say "it's photocopied- we aren't accepting it."
I stick to manufacturer coupons now even then I sometimes get told they won't accept them if they don't recognise the product - but it's worth trying!

Also a new Tesco just opened here and ASDA confirmed they would accept all the £10 introductory coupons Tesco had sent out to potential customers -so I have been using them at ASDA.
