it is asda policy to take manufacturers coupons - regardless if U have bought the product. It used to 10% off the vlaue of your shopping but that has been updated and they will take more.

I would contact ASDA House Customer service and I garantee you will get vouchers off your next shopping approx £3/5 for your inconvenience. Emphasis your embarrashment as you were refused people looking etc. and ask for verification of their policy re: Sainsburys.

The fact people can print lots of them isn't a reason for the supermarkets not to accept them - they get a handling charge and the money back from the manufacturers.

The reason that internet coupons are not accepted (by many places) is because they can be easily forged and it's hard for checkout operators to judge if they are genuine or not. Obviously the supermarkets may not get reimbursed for forged coupons if the manufacturer susses that they are forgeries.

Thanks for clarifying this point, I'm tired so didn't write in detail. We've all seen the attempts on this site and others that 'doctor' the internet coupons to make them scan at a higher price. This is obviously much easier with internet vouchers and so not worth the hassel for alot of supermarkets.

with coupons ADSA simply scanns the bar code at the till so the original price should come up not the doctored price.

It is possible to alter the barcode too. The last 3 digits except the last one (the check digit) on a coupon barcode determine its value. In the Microsoft Word expansion pack there is a font to type barcodes as normal text or the barcode fonts can also be downloaded from the internet. This makes printable vouchers easily forgable (I'm sure somebody on this form did an example, but I can't find it using the Search button). Of course, we could start from scratch and make a new version of the Joeys for a different product, perhaps even one we genuinely buy so there is never a hastle!

I think printable vouchers are a bad idea - there's a very fine line between overdoing the genuine printable coupons as I'm sure companies will just stop issuing them if they're not profitable!

OP, aren't the vouchers a bonus, an incentive to get more customers? If some checkout operators take them when the product isn't purchased (against the terms of most vouchers) - jackpot! If it clearly says "do not attempt to redeem this voucher against another product..." etc (and that is what people are doing by not buying the actual product) there's bound to be some confusion over the acceptabilty of the voucher, especially for new staff.

It varies so much with every member of staff you speak to and I can't be bothered with the hassle so I only use self scan now.

In some stores there is a check out where you scan the goods yourself. I haven't used them much but they seem to take any vouchers that you scan :T There doesn't seem to be a % limit, but maybe someone who uses them regularly can confirm this

Based on my local stores, the self scan machines will take around 10% before they ask the operator to authorise the coupons - I think that each store programs them to their specific store policy.

The cashiers at my local stores all say 10%, but the self scan machine will take whatever it is given.
There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.

I use self scan at Tesco and Asda regularly and there's no limit on the number of coupons you can scan. My Tesco did for a while authorise all coupons due to people using out of date ones but they've now stopped this.

About two months ago my Asda had signs up everywhere stating they would no longer accept competitors coupons. A member of staff told me that customers were handing over wads of Somerfield coupons and they were losing too much because of this.

My Asda will take coupons printed from the internet and any manufacturers coupons if they sell the product. Will not take rival coupons, seems fair enough to me.
