You need to report this immediately as a criminal offence has been committed and the culprit is now in possession of controlled drugs which is also an offence. There is a strong likelihood that these drugs may be supplied to other persons. The culprit needs to be caught and it is quite possible that he has been doing this in other chemist's. He got lucky this time!! I am sure the chemist should be able to give a good desrcription and should have it on CCTV. Good luck.

how do you know a criminal offence has been committed??
maybe they were just hard of hearing, or no longer fully in touch with this world, like my mum, bless her, who could easily pick up someone elses medicines by mistake.

also, being in possesion of controlled drugs is not an offence, but can be in some circumstances.

a tad of over reaction there I think, but I would definitly check with the pharmacy tomorrow that all the policies and procedures have been followed--there will certainly be LOTS of these in place to cover this problem.

hope you get all your stuff in time, op, and I can bet that the pharmicist is having a very bad night tonight!

  • I'm sure they'll take it seriously whatever happens, something similar has probably happend at the Pharmacy I use, a big sign is now up saying they are using improved security measures. A few days ago I was in there collecting my prescription cream handed it over, waited around 5 minutes then she called my name. She asked me to confirm my address before I could have it, only she had the form on the counter where I could clearly see it along with my other details. Improved security my @55!

  • The pharmacist is in trouble as he cannot legally resupply those drugs without a further prescription and I cant see mention that the doctor has re-issued the script!! Pharmacist should have rang surgery, explained the situation and redone the script. Our patients are always "losing" drugs - very rarely the police are informed, the doctors just re-issue and put a note on the screen!

Methadone is a different matter - different coloured script and tighter rules. If these medicines were just bagged up an assistant could easily not even known what was in the bag as they are sealed with the name and address tag.

I dont think a professional person should have flapped, just should have been sensible and raised a major alert to change the way they hand scripts over in future.
  • slightly odd as the pharmacy i go to call out the name and ask you for the address

i go for my mums and have to remember her address and not mine (ironic when i am still registered at the docs under her address and not mine) but the pharmacy staff know my mum as she is a friendly smiley astmatic (sp?) so she is in for stuff a lot and not a lot of people are nice to the staff
things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then ;)

Totally unnecessary to reissue the script. Script authorises pharmacist to issue drugs to the person named at NHS expense. Plainly, they can carry on and issue the drugs to the correct person against the initial script, since this is what it authorises.

What has happened is that an unauthorised issue of drugs has been made, so the pharmacy should pay. Issuing a second script would only legitimise the mistaken issue of drugs to a presumed imposter - and do so at NHS expense.

  • sounds like someone is going to be partying hard this evening then - if not already on it...

Just wondering but did you tell them you were leaving the chemists and would be back later to pick it up. in no way im i trying to apportion any blame to yourself but i have always done this even for an inhaler just so no old boy thinks he hears his name instead. And then i go and ask them if its ready. this should be standard practice really.
