    Very professional!

What on earth were they doing, shouting our name AND address?! How do they check they are giving the correct products to the right person if they don't even do a simple "and what is your address?" check - which they obviously didn't in this case!

I would contact the police, if only to make sure that the pharmacist has informed them. I would hope she has, for the reasons you give!

Out of interest - have you now been given your drugs?

Just what i was thinking , my old local pharmacy always said your address out loud as well , stupid.

Someone is gonna have a party with that cocktail thats for sure! Hope it wasnt a junkie and just someone who picked up the wrong thing and notices the bottles or whatever in someone elses name.

How un-professional. What right minded pharmicist is going to shout your address out in a shop of people? As the 'thief' now knows what drugs you are likely to have in your house, and knows your address, I think you are in your right to contact the police, and dare I say compensation.

I hate saying compensation, but this has put you and your family at risk. The pharmacy were totally negligent.

Let us know how you get on.

    Regards

I would contact the police as if anyone is caught in possession it will have your name all over it, so just to be on the safe side report it. I myself am also prescribed morphine, amitriptyline and other strong drugs.

The chemist I use for the first few times I had to nominate 2 people who were allowed to collect the prescription and those people had to take ID with them. Now they will only hand over to my wife without asking for ID. I asked my sister-in-law to pick up a prescription whilst she was in town a few weeks ago and they refused to give it her as she had no ID.

It's a shame other chemists aren't as strict.

I'd start with the pharmacist and ask if they have told the police, if not then I'd contact these people.

I do have to ask if it really was the pharmacist or their assistant (although ultimately the pharmacist is responsible).

Even though I'm on 1st name terms, I have to have ID on me to pick up my wife's morphine, as its a controlled drug they are supposed to check ID. At work we have to record exact quantities of morphine used & have at least 1 witness to verify destruction of unused morphine.

I think the pharmacist is likely to be in very big trouble and could be disciplined/ struck off for allowing a controlled drug to be taken so easily by an unknown individual.

  • I too would contact the police and the health board. Is the pharmacy part of a large chain or independantly owned?
  • The shop will have informed the police I see no reason for you to unless it puts your mind at rest but they are unlikely to supply security 'just in case'. Chances are the shop did not shout out your address as this is time consuming and unecessary. They usually ask for it when you respond to your name, if they haven't and a opportunist drug addict has somehow struck lucky with a bag full of morphine they will have been so elated that the packaging would have been dumped straight off. However this is unlikely as 99.9% of the time they would only get away with HRT and acne cream. I reckon they will be returned to the shop but if not, although I can see your concern, I wouldn't worry to much, you sound like you have enough on your plate.
    Take care
