Does anyone know of any good cheap place to eat in Paris please?

We went a couple of years ago and ate out in the 5th (Latin Quarter) where there were loads of restaurants and loads of touts trying to get your business.
Most places had 3 course "menus" of basic french food for 10-15 Euros (not sure if the price has increased) on display on boards to it is easy to make a quick decision about if you want to eat there. We had a great time every night choosing which food and where to eat. The majority of the food was really nice.0 -
I would try and avoid Flunch if at all possible - it really is not representative of the great food that can be found in Paris and is a kind of mix of a Bhs cafe/Wimpey/Little Chef( before any kind of revamp) and worst school dinners! It speaks volumes that you get given an entry code for the toilet facilities on your receipt..... It is cheap but save your money and put it towards something you will really enjoy
Utter rubbish!
Flunch offers fantastic value for money, fresh, delicious food cooked in front of you and a great range of choices.
Everytime ive been it's been full of locals so you'd better let them know they're wasting their money!
A code for the loo? Not in my experience.
Remember the request? Somewhere reasonable to eat in Paris. What would your suggestion be? The tourist trap places on the left bank with turks dragging you in through the door or three michelin stars on Rue St Honore?
3 courses in Flunch £10!0 -
Grab some Falafel in the Marias. That has to be the cheapest eat in Paris. It's nice and filling too.
This thread reminds me of reading Georgw Orwell "Down and out in Paris and London". He used to grab a baguette and rub garlic on it. The bread would fill him and the stench of garlic fooled his brain into thinking that he had recently eaten!0 -

Ooooh.........
This is one of those where it is definitely a question of personal taste. My reply was based on my experience and is subjective, as is any recommendation on here.
All restaurants are full of locals - the price does attract customers but when I was a local I do not recall any of my friends or family returning to Flunch even if it cost 10 euros for 3 courses - Once bitten.....

I get the impression that as the OP is travelling by Ryanair, they just want a cheap place to eat and is not looking for a michellin restaurant(apologies to the OP if this is not the case) The Flunch restaurants offer terrific value for money and I always use them when I travel to Paris. There are 2 Flunch restaurants quite near to each other that I use (one in les Halles and one near the pompideu centre)0

Thanks everyone. This discussion has really given me something to think about.
andy46 You are correct about us being something cheap as we are on a very tight budget. I think I will do as in 'Down and Out in Paris', bread and maybe cheese or meat rather then the garlic for lunch. Probably on a park bench. Although I did exactly that 30 years ago. Sometimes just the bread!
I also have never flown with Ryanair before.
I do hope to be able to sit at a table for my evening meal, as I have three evenings there I will probably look into Flunch now that I have more recommendations for it. I have to collect my niece in the evening from near Les Halles so that is probably the best option for feeding three of us.
MancBrel mmmm.... I love falafel.. DH hates it.. maybe he can grab something else. Maybe bread and cheese for DH. I need to research where the Marias is.
greenface Thanks for a lovely idea, and yes, I want to eat there, but my budget doesn't allow it at all. It does look like the sort of place I would love to eat at if I had the money, but ATM we have very little. Maybe something of mine on ebay will sell for a lot more than I am expecting!business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

The 'cheapest' place I found to eat was up a side street not too far from the Moulin Rouge. My sister and I looked through a 'restaurant' window and decided it looked good - it was packed out and everybody was laughing and drinking, obviously enjoying their dinner experience. We entered, sat down, ordered 2 beers and, we thought, agreed to have their set menu.
Slowly, during the evening, after a lovely 3 course meal and many beers later, it dawned on us that something wasn't quite right, but we carried on nonetheless! When we eventually asked for our bill the entire room erupted with laughter. A youngish girl came over to our table and explained that the 'restaurant' was indeed a private house and it was Grandmother's birthday celebration. However, there was 'no charge' because everybody had had a good laugh at our expense!
Perhaps not to be recommended as a cheap place to eat in Paris, but you certainly won't find cheaper!
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:I love it - what was the street name - just in case anyone else in the family is partying whilst we are there!!!!If you think you are too small to make a difference, try getting in bed with a mosquito!

SS can't remember the street name (probably due to all the free beers and wine we guzzled) but they were a jolly lot so chances are if you ever find it there will be a family celebration going on! The thing is my sister and I like to think that we're well educated, well travelled and very knowing - you know the type. We couldn't believe we didn't catch on!0
