    Yes honestly.
    I wouldn't have a family if I couldn't honestly support them.
Would you just go ahead and have kids without any thought of how you were going to provide for them? Would you do anything? How far would you go?
Spekaing theorectically of course, but in this country with a welfare state would you be prepare to steal? murder? prostition?

My answer is still the same,
    No I wouldn't do it.

I find this REALLY offensive. Whilst I was working for a credit card company, selling these products, I was working and not claiming benefits/dole/whatever you want to call it. I was SUPPORTING my family by working.

I'm not saying that I agree with sales of these products over the phone (my personal view is that I DON'T agree with it) however, I take objection with your personal view that I wasn't supporting my family in an honest and civilised way.

Your personal opinion doesn't count for anything here, you should stick to the facts.

Whenever I get the selling pitch for PPI or whatever, it always makes me feel guilty for saying no. Conveniently, they never hear me say "No, I don't want PPI" at the start of the call, and dive right into the 600 word selling pitch.

It does really annoy the hell outta me that they don't [usually] take NO for an answer and keep badgering you to take PPI. However, I understand it is their job.. they are trying to earn a bonus and someones gotta do it.

I had a job, which I had to try and sell addons whenever customers phoned. I HATED badgering customers to buy it, but it was part of the job. The customer representatives at banks most likely feel the exact same way as we(consumers) do about it. Bear that in mind next time you're rude and slam the phone down on them.

  • I phoned a company today to activate my card. The lady on the phone was very friendly and I was the same. Didn`t take any of the insurances though.
  • My word..... I had the PPI treatment from Halifax. "Do you have life insurance, what would happen if you lost your job, how would your wife cope". Told them 4 times that I wasn't interested and got the response "we need to tell you about the benefits of PPI as part of the T&Cs."

At the end of the interrogation, guess what? It was recommended that I should obtain PPI. I said no and thought about adding "do you sometimes not recommend the PPI?" but couldn't be @rsed.

Shocking treatment. I can see plenty of people being pressured into taking this.

I realised banks have to make money... just wish they wouldn't put people in a pressure cooker to do it.

For the record, I'm stoozing on a 12 month 0% card. There is no need for PPI.
  • Cheery, at the company I work for if we pushed PPI (when it was still been sold) anywhere near as far as that, the call wouldn't be compliant under the FSA (and alot of sales calls are monitored to make sure we are been compliant)

You could of actually filed a complaint for the way Halifax treat you there as they were not selling the policy compliantly!
    Student.
  • Honestly, I let the advisor carry on for a couple of reasons.....

    1. I understand it's their job (even though I disagree with customer facing staff being forced to push so hard).
    2. I'm bagging 6.5K off Halifax for 12 months at 0% so I'm costing them money.

Perhaps the FSA should cold call companies from time to time. Perhaps they already do.

I'm fortunate in being reasonably savvy (I get caught out every now and again) though I do worry about others who face this style of up-selling.

I'm complaining about service from Northern Rock for a third time. Don't have time to go after Halifax ;-)
