Hard Sell When Activating Cards

Honestly, even if you had a family to support?
Yes honestly.
I wouldn't have a family if I couldn't honestly support them.
Would you just go ahead and have kids without any thought of how you were going to provide for them? Would you do anything? How far would you go?
Spekaing theorectically of course, but in this country with a welfare state would you be prepare to steal? murder? prostition?
My answer is still the same,
No I wouldn't do it.0 -

It's not about fleecing customers
The product is a good product allbeit just a bit expensive..
If it was a good product at a good price it would sell itself. I think it's an unnecessary product at an overinflated price. They are therefore fleecing customers IMHO.
I feel some sympathy for the call centre peeps, they are earning a crust and supporting families, which in this climate is not easy.
The CC companies have been rapped over the knuckles about PPI so are now using this avenue to make money. I imagine in a few years they will be criticised over the current practice.0 -
Hysterical! How can you compare Stealing, Murder and Prostitution to telesales? Get a grip!
We are dicussing people trying to justify imorality. The extent of it is quite a valid question.
I think it was George Bernard Shaw who said
"Madam, we've already established what you are, we are just negotiating a price".
(I can probably provide the full text if it doesn't ring any bells).
I never have any problem with telesales people.
I make it quite clear what I want and I demand they do their job (activating the card in this case). I've never had a problem when I ask them to do what I want.0 -
This is why I like Virgin, card comes in post with sticky lable on the front with a freephone number, dial number, key in card number and press 1 button to activate.
All of 10 seconds required from my life0 -

You demand they do their job? At the same time as berating them for doing the job in the way their bosses demand they do it?
I bet you demand everyone does their job, checkout staff, airline crew, box-office staff, you must be a lovely customer to have to deal with.
Good grief, it whiny assed crybabies like you that cause these people so much stress. I had to do it once myself to put food on my table, reading a boring script was one thing, dealing with people who were rude, nasty and thought they knew my job better than I did was another.0 -

It's sometimes attributed to Churchill, Twain and Bertrand Russell as well.

I work for a credit card company, and we actually go down a disciplinatory if we don't try to overcome objections and also lose any chance of a bonus, so please keep that in mind aswell, we don't want to pester you, but its our job, and jobs aren't the easiest things to come about these days!
I also used to work for a credit card company, many years ago, when selling this stuff was just starting to become the norm. Trust me, we hated asking the questions and trying to overcome objections as much as you hate us asking the questions.
For the same reason, I disliked going into Halifax where I held my bank account to do my banking, because I knew for sure they would try to sell me something, it happens every time.
In the end though, I changed my bank to one that doesn't do this. So the Halifax weren't really the winner.0 -
