Hard Sell When Activating Cards

In the last week I've activated cards with MBNA and Santander and had to endure the hard sell of identity protection, it was relentless.

It seems this has replaced the PPI scam.

Just say you are really not interested and can you activate your card please.
Do NOT get drawn into arguments, just insist they activate your card, if you get drawn into arguments i just gives them an opportunity.

I tried that said I had it with Barclaycard, but Santander use the same company and he was able to check on the postcode and knew I was telling porky pies. In the end I was blunt and hung up.

You are all far too easy going.

"Look, activate my card, or I'm going to go elsewhere and report you".

    Wrong way of doing it:

    Them: Can I ask $PERTANT_QUESTION_LEADING_TO_WHATEVER
    You: Is this for $WHATEVER?
    Them: Yes
You: No thank you. Please activate my card.
Them: I'd really like to sell you $WHATEVER
You: No thanks, I'm fully covered for $WHATEVER. Please activate my card.
Them: May I ask who with?
You: No. Please activate my card.
Them: Are you sure, with our $WHATEVER protection we give you $WORTHLESS_CRUD
You: No thanks. Please activate my card.
    Them: $MORE_OF_SAME
    You: Please activate my card.

Even the stupidest[1] CSR should get the message after a while.

[1] The less stupid should realise very early on that you're not buying so will get you off the line ASAP to get to the next [STRIKE]victim[/STRIKE] customer.
    Conjugating the verb 'to be":
-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries

I work for a credit card company, and we actually go down a disciplinatory if we don't try to overcome objections and also lose any chance of a bonus, so please keep that in mind aswell, we don't want to pester you, but its our job, and jobs aren't the easiest things to come about these days!

Sorry Marricked, this site is about consumer revenge, getting back at the big companies who take us for what they can; I personally believe you're not going to get any sympathy out of anyone here :-)
You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.

I'm tempted to report Santander following my recent conversation. The call taker was really piling it on with comments such as "you could only resolve this with solicitors and by going court" etc. Now I know this is !!!!!!!! as I've successfully removed incorrect info from my credit file without the use of a solicitor. I suspect an older or more vulnerable customer may be frightened into taking out a policy.
  • i'm all for consumer revenge, but directing insults at the "stupid" customer service advisors who are trying there best to get sales in order to stop the entire call centre closing and moving to India is a bit to far!
