I agree ... its one reason I don't worry *too* much about running down my stocks ... whether its a strike of some sort, or a holdup in supply, or I'm ill - like, when I had swine flu a couple of months ago, I happened to be fairly low on paracetemol. Thats *really* unusual for me, but it happened and I had to deal - the friend who kindly went to get some for me spent £4 on 32 tablets :eek: They're something like 90% less if you buy Boots Value!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Well - you must have been really ill if you weren't able to say you wanted these ones

Not just strikes. It's going to happen anyway... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1212744/Blackouts-2016-unless-Britain-replaces-ageing-power-stations-warns-Government-energy-adviser.html"Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Oh bleepity, Z - you're too young, but during the 3 day week of the 1970s, I was revising for my O levels by candle light and Tilley lamp - and yes we *did* already have electricity, thank you very much

I *was* around in the 70's...must be my youthful good looks...
What I meant was that even if people *don't* go on strike, we are still going to have power cuts. We are going to run out of generating capacity."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

:rolleyes: Sorry you made your point well, as usual - ahem, I just wasn't listening. Now that I am :rolleyes: that definitely means I'm going the green route, and have control over my own power supply, by however much - even if I can just heat one room, rather than going without any heat in the winter. BTW, yesterday, as I was going to that green apartment block, I saw an old coach somebody was obviously living in (the destination board read "Definitely Not Going Anywhere") and it had a windmill perched on the roof - detachable, I'm sure, but it was great!2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Windmills are only of real use out in the country alas.

Having only moved to civilisation 2 years ago from a farm cottage I know lots about power cuts.
Snow = power cut
Wind = power cut
Farmer shooting crows = power cut
Tree falling on line = power cut
We were on a reduced power supply anyway & when you put the kettle on the lights dimmed - really.
I had a blackout box in the living room at all times - candles, matches, torches, wind up radio, battery alarm clock & various other bits & pieces - nothing worse than stumbling around looking for torches......Blackout box was well-used.
Oh the joys of village life - the wind can blow all it likes & we can still watch telly......:DDebts 07/12/2021
