Have you got ongoing subsidence too then, DT? Woss goin' on?
Expecting him feels quite disruptive, actually, and my laptop was *so* slow starting up today, I thought something had happened, but it seems fine now.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

No I didn't buy the house but I so wanted too and still look at it when I walk past although now it would be far too small for us the house is a bit ugly but the spot is pefect so I would love to remodel it or knock it down and start again. It has the most fabulous victorian greenhouses in the back garden too that need lots of TLC.
My friend said I was not allowed to buy a house built on sand - he is a vicar too - so in the biblical sense thats true - but I am sure we could sort the foundations out

Good luck with the surveyor today.0

Victorian greenhouses........ I like the sound of that. I saw some at Borde Hill with Wol, they are *so* lovely.
Just having a break now for lunch, trying to summon up some energy. Cuppa tea, I think.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

There's no falling down going on
.... yet  ..... which also means there's no money coming my way from the insurers, because of the type of slo-mo falling down it is - a retaining wall not tied in to the brickwork of the house, basically.
The conclusions are, for the retaining wall for the garden:
- It won't fall down yet.
- There's no subsidence.
- It will fall down one day fairly soon, but it will lean another couple of inches before it does.
- Its gone too far to be saved.
The other wall, the boundary wall, just needs some remortaring and some slabs relaying, not nearly so serious, I could do that if I got my act together.
So. Decluttering magazines is not going to do it, I have to get serious about this - whatever happens, things aren't going to simply potter along in the same old way. Either I make the money somehow, or I borrow it, or I take the hit and sell this house - but then I need to think really carefully about what I buy - it has to be flat enough to avoid all of these problems, sure, but I have to like it, to like the area, and have the area accessible to clients, I can imagine that some of my income will be coming from clients. Unless I seriously mean to finish this work, buy an investment property in Crawley to be rented out, and go live in a winnebago in Spain. And I don't seriously mean to do that, so its back to the other alternatives.
I'm getting out those "to do" room lists and having a think.
Thanks for the posts folks, I appreciate it.2023: the year I get to buy a car0
