Slopes in - lots on in here as always - wow to the moving in date - seems to be moving along eh?
I'm also stalking you on your blog................up and about at home but leaving my diseases within my own four walls - DS away later so its nice to be able to be 'around' for him.

:hello: How you doing, Fay? Horrible being ill like that....
Thanks for the blog stalkingjust about to post the second one, its drafted and I just want to check it through. Its more internet based stuff, but of course I'm sort of writing for the future, for when the website's up and running - I need to find out about "monetizing", which really is a tab you can press when you log in to make a post
I've also started to check out removals in seriousness, and what packing box companies can do, for the move and for the blog, and how realistic the green claims are. There's one where you can buy 2nd hand boxes, and it refers to them as eco boxes. Hmmm. Its a good effort, but .... dunno.
I feel like I always feel when I have a big job on hand - wanting to get started, but knowing how big it is, I'm reluctant too .... ug. I feel a comfort eating binge coming on!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
A company I used once packed it up and unpacked it - you only 'rented' their boxes IYSWIM - which seemed quite good - they also just moved wardrobes etc with the contents in them - or moved them into the van - put the stuff back in and then did the opposite in reverse when they got there. Limited boxes that way and you didn't buy them you 'rented/used' them as part of their charges.
To be honest I've done it differently this time - which won't necessarily work for you - I managed with a series of bin bags tied appropriately (to be able to re-use them) and plastic storage boxes which we already had which were used several times as we were doing a slow move. All the drawers/containers etc were used as boxes as well - filled up or left full and then put into the van within the dresser they came out of when moving - when arriving we emptied the drawers into the house one by one and then the empty dresser.
To be honest I've not bought a box - but I'm not moving all in one go. So I don't know if I would have had to if I did it all at once.
If you need boxes though - supermarkets/shops etc so have them already flat packed to go back to where they recycle them as they have to get rid of their own packaging - you might be able to get some I'd imagine for free from a local place and then 'recycle' them again once done - bit like the borrowing bit I suppose.Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

The borrowing idea is a good one..like the sound of that.0

Thanks - seems like the borrowing is a good idea! Supermarkets down here don't do the "empty boxes please take" thing any more, Fay - I saw a garden centre doing it the other day, but no one else
I think they may sell their packaging now - more profits than giving them away....
I do have quite a few cardboard boxes, but not nearly enough - the books alone will take 20 or so boxes..... I definitely want a removal company to come round the house before they give me a quote, if they won't then they just don't get the business.
Off now, as I just blethered on Taxi's thread, I'm **starving**2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Hope you have a lovely lunch...what you having?0

Good idea to get a quote if you've got a lot of stuff. I thought in general removal companies filled the boxes, emptied the boxes and then took the boxes away to re-use. Mind you I've only had experience of business moves on a big scale - my own ones I've just had to find boxes and fill cars up!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0

Yeah they don't do it here anymore either you have to ask. But a good removal company should keep hold of their boxes surely, its an investment!!
Goodluck with it all - I'm now starving too!!
For the books we used plastic boxes/wicker baskets, drawers, robust reusable jute shopping bags were a good size as well as being up to the job and other assorted laundry baskets etc to move our boxes as well - if you've any it might cut down on the amount of boxes you need - just a thought.Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

Thats a point - I've got two laundry flip top boxes and two suitcases - I have a trolley case as well, but I'll use that for the "first box" type stuff. I have to confess, I recycled 3 moving-house-type cardboard boxes last year, when I started to clear the garage:o:o:o And I've got a laptop carrier, courtesy of my late brother in law, so I'll take my laptop and my scanner on my back - they're precious, they are!
I've just spent an hour up and down to the loft..... once again, I am amazed :rotfl::eek: This is my haul:
- two beautifully stripped, beautifully carved dining room chairs and the 19th century French log store are useless, lots and lots of woodworm.
- another 4 rolls of insulation.
- 5 pads of insulation
- my LP collection - damn, I've got The White LP. I've got Sergeant Pepper! And La Guerre des Etoiles dating back to 1977!
- an under bed storage box of clothes - I can already see that some of them are 30 years old or so - the T shirt I wore to a punk party, the fluffy cardi I knitted.
- slabs and slabs of polystyrene - thats what comes of not knowing what you've got where - I had all those rolls of insulation the whole time, and I'd forgotten about them, so I was painstakingly collecting polystyrene (till I realised it was a fire risk and, once again, just left them there). Okay, at some stage I'll have a little rant about that on the blog
- I found the knitting needles I used to have! And some stitch holders, and a needle gauge, and a French knitting dolly, and a very posh pom pom maker made of concentric circles of something that looks like neoprene.
- nine beer mats! King & Barnes, Yates & Jackson, Hook Norton, Theakston, a 1977 Silver Jubilee one from Morrells, Ruddles, Higsons, and The Dirty Duck at Stratford.... I think I might keep those, I used to have hundreds.
- and finally.... some bridesmaid's flowers, and the piggy bank in the shape of a postbox that I had when I was about 11I'd no idea I still had that :j
There's another hour or so's work up there, but that might be it then. Tho there's a load of wood and a single bedstead that I'm leaving up there - it was there when I came, I'll just let it be. Any opinions, anyone?2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

I had barley with soya and black eyed beans, with a sauce of gravy seasoning and fruit chutney all mixed up! Sounds dreadful, but it was nice, and I'm using things up.redsquirrel80 wrote: »Good idea to get a quote if you've got a lot of stuff.
