a nice day here in Worcestershire:j
I'm back to work later for an 11 hour shift but its a very busy one so should go quickly(she hopes:D) staff meeting followed by taking a service user clothes shopping followed by a curry in town with another service user for a member of staffs birthday.

This morning I have had a clean through and hung 1 load on the line. Before work I am delivering some more Slimming World leaflets.
We did a lot of work in the garden yesterday and its looking good! aching muscles this morning though.

    Good morning everyone!

Nice day again here...the sun is shining but there's a nip in the air. Autumn for definate.

Had the best night's sleep last night I've had in ages. I do love the Hubby but there's no denying he takes up 9/10th of the bed and fidgets a lot so when he's away it's a treat to get the whole bed to myself! And he won't be back till tomorrow. Two nights sleep in a row. Bliss!

I am sick of painting the front door. Yes I've been working on it three days now but it needed time to dry properly after the filler + knotting solution, then primer, then I put the first coat of black gloss on yesterday. I was hoping I could get away with one coat of gloss but no such luck...will have to give it a second one. Oh well once I've done that it will be good for two or three years. However it does have to stand open to dry and we look right out onto the main street with a lot of people walking past so while it's drying, I can't go out and leave just the inner glass door shut. Not secure.

So after being stuck in all day yesterday watching paint dry (!) today I am going out for a shopping morning. Nothing exciting, just catch-up itemms like a new bolt and cat food and such, but I think we might have an M&S £10 meal as a treat when hubby comes back tomorrow if I can get a good sized chicken as part of it. If you add a few extra veg to these £10 meals you can easily feed four with plenty of chicken left over for another meal plus soup, so it's not wildly extravagent.

Talking of veg, I also need to go to the allotment and see what's for picking. Beans, salad, sweetcorn, autumn rasps, herbs and some potatoes? That and a chicken will see us through the weekend, if I get some cream. Got meringue nests in the larder, so I'll make pavlovas.

Oh, and congratulations Patentgirl on the birth of grandson Oliver. Sorry to hear your DD had a hard time of it...hope she's feeling better now and that she's home, or will be soon? Tell her from me though that she's going to really appreciate having such a supportive mum around. ;)
    Val.
  • Congratulations Patentgirl:beer:

    Well good morning all,

I'm just having a coffee after the school run. It is a beautiful September day here, bright blue sky, hedgerows full of berries and a bit of a nip in the air to remind us that Summer is on its way out.

In about an hour I shall get some bread on the go. Then I shall leave it to rise while I go for a swim. When I get back I'll bake it.

Breakfast today was beans on toast for the kids and a raspberry and strawberry smoothie for me. The kids had the berries for pud last night but I didn't want mine then so I've had them for breakfast. I'm sure you're all fascinated by such details! I'm turning into my mother:o.

Lunchboxes have ham sandwiches, chocolate chip cake and grapes or bananas in them today.
I'm going to have a tuna sandwich.

Supper tonight will be baked potatoes stuffed with bacon, onion and cheese. This will use up the sour cream and the 2 rashers of bacon lurking in my fridge. We will have salad and sweetcorn with them.
  • Good Morning Chums,
well the breast care lady confirmed yesterday at the clinic that my fall on holiday has brought on lymphodema and gave me a list of excercises to do to bring the swelling down. Plus a long sleeve to wear on my arm and a thick fingerless glove to wear on my hand so I now look like Dr Stranglove ( The Peter Sellers character) .At least I will be quite warm when the weathers is cold and frosty. I have to go back in a fortnight so she can see if its improved at all, so I'd better keep up with the excercises.
I was going to go to the shops this morning but have decided to go tomorrow instead as I can last out with what I have in the fridge atm and would only end up spending. I have a pile of ironing to get through and I'm going to be a bit more ruthless and not iron everything as I usually do. its quite warm and sunny in North Kent atm so I may just have a walk around to the park and make the most of a sunny day, it will be winter soon enough I can also drop a couple of books off at the library on the way.Hope everyone has a good day
    Cheers JackieO

    :hello:Good morning all!

haven't posted just lately but have been reading.

Marie - So pleased to hear that Thunder turned up and that he and Sile have settled down again! I wonder if she hissed at him at first because he "smelled wrong" having been somewhere else?

Peyton - A new furbaby, how lovely!

Patentgirl - Congrats to you all on Oliver's arrival.

reverbe - Well done on your book bargain! :T Wherever did you find a copy for 50p?

JackieO - So sorry to hear about your arm - what a dratted nuisance! :(

I do hope the clinic can help.

NPM -Well done for managing the MRI (((HUGS)))

    ((((tired mum)))) and ((((mrs_mix))))

Penny_Pincher - Thinking of you hon, and glad OH's foot isn't broken! Must be very painful tho :(

(((HUGS))) to all who need some!

Well, I think (hope) the iron tablets are starting to kick in as I feel less tired - Still not got a lot of energy, but more than I did have :j Also the blood tests i've had showed i'm slightly insulin-resistant, so basically i need to eat as if i were diabetic, in the hope of not becoming diabetic later on  The doc said that if I do eat something sweet, to have it at the end of a meal rather than as a snack on its own. She told me to try to lose some weight too, as that would help as well - easier said than done, though :o

Been working hard at using up what I've got in the fridge while it's still usable :A Tonight we're having Spanish omelettes, with peppers in them as well as potato, as I bought the peppers last week to use in a stir-fry but then we didin't have the stir-fry :D

Wee have decided to go to the Craft Show at Penshurst tomorrow and take DD1 with us so she has a chance to get out into the country, which she loves. There's a stall selling seersucker shirts/blouses and they're very nice ones - I have a couple already and would like to get at least one more to take when we go to NZ as they dry so quickly. Hope you enjoy yourself there on Saturday JackieO!

Went to the library yesterday and came across a book called "Spuds, Spam and Eating for Victory" by Katherine Knight, about rationing in the 2nd World War, so really looking forward to reading that one. Has anyone else read it? (Perhaps thriftlady?;))

Washing to do presently, but will wait until DH is up rather than disturb him as he had a bad night.

valk_scot - Just keep your mind on how beautiful the door will look when it's finished :D

mioliere - Very belated birthday greetings to you! Glad you had a good day.

Welcome to Raggydoll and our other new posters.

Hope you all have as good a day as possible

    Morning peeps

beautiful crisp sunny morning here today, most of the hw has already been done and the houndies were walked early doors, i spent a couple of hours in the greenhouse and now have some more tomatoes ripening in a bag with a banana :D

I`ve just picked the last 4 cucumbers and i was going to compost the plant but have found another clutch of small ones growing so i shall leave it for a while and see if they develop into larger ones.

I shall head off into the kitchen shortly for a quick tidy up and then jump in the shower before i leave for w*rk.

Justpeytonfornow - :j great news re the new furbaby, hope that Bree gets on well with the new addition. Buttons is a lovely name and well done you for giving him/her a new home.

Lillibet Dripping - Congratulations on the cottage.

Bitsy - I have the standard remsoka as there are only two of us and i really wouldn`t be without it, not been on the remoska thread for a while so i shall have a nosy later.:D

    - Hope that your arm is better soon

Valk Scot - The door will be lovely when it`s finished, when you first posted about it i saw in my minds eye a lovely black glossy door shining in the sun. We don`t have a wooden door in this house but i loved the one we used to have.

Right best make a move or i shall be late and i hate scrabbling around at the last minute.

    Have a good day everyone.

Got it so cheap in Tescos with a combination of things It was £26 reduced to £13 reduced to £10. Then used a Mail MOC which took £2.50 off so brought it down to £7.50. I then used a £7 Tescos Clubcard voucher and 50p from my focus group earnings.. hence 50p to pay...:p:j

Surprisingly yes:D I borrowed if from the library too and it is a good read. It's well researched.

Another good one that I got from the library and liked so much that I bought is
Sucking Eggs: what your wartime granny could teach you about diet thrift and going green .This is a good read too and well illustrated. The author uses the wartime rationing system to illustrate how the govt and the public could change the way we live today -well the title sums it up really.

    Hi all!

Thanks for the recipe Diva, it sounds scrummy. I will be giving them a try next week.

I went to the Jobcentre today who seem to think that there is a way to help me - yay! Although I'd really prefer a proper job.

I'm attempting to tidy today - again - and I still haven't touched my curtains :o. You wouldn't believe we're moving on Sunday, especially given the time and energy Mr Maitane and I have devoted to arguing over every tiny little thing as opposed to packing!
Do you think the flylady thread peoples will know how to remove candle wax from pretty much every surface?

I'm also pondering making some fennel chutney and some aubergine pickle. My sort of MIL gave me quite a few of the aubergines from her plant and I was hoping to do them justice. I also really enjoyed Nigel Slaters' programme last night and totally forgot how much I love chard.

Anyone else up to much OS-y (or otherwise)?

Hugs and the like to all,

    Maite.
