  • The only things certain in life are tax and death.

What has happened is 'just one of those things'
Am sure as your baby is born you will very glad that it's happened, but i wouldn't get compensation.
To be honest am just grateful that we can go into hospital to have babies and operations etc without worrying about expensive bills / insurance, but the way this compensation culture is going we will be like America and have to pay full whack for treatment.
That'll give us something to moan about won't it?
  • But it isn't negilgence.
No form of contraceptive, which this is, albeit the most invasive, is 100% effective, sometimes mother nature wins.

If OP's OH's !!!! had fallen off, fair enough, that would be negligent.

Not necessarily negligence, a risk with even correctly performed surgery is that the tissue doesn't respond well to the invasive area so although rare it isn't unknown for nipples to die and drop off with breast reduction surgery (most common in smokers) my ex-house mate is a breast surgeon  .... so possibly his !!!! could fall off with no negligence.

Exactly - that is why specialist medical and legal advice is required. I assume the OPs DH is being investigated already regarding the cause and nature of the failure.

In your example a nipple could be lost as a normal risk of surgery or it could be due to negigent performance of the surgery. But even if it was a normal risk was the patient given adequate advice or was the advice negligent???

We had our pre-vasectomy talk yesterday so things are quite fresh in my mind. We were told that it was a 1 in 1000 risk of not working. Dr said that female sterilisation was 4 in 1000.

I was quite amazed to learn that it takes on average 20 ejaculations to clear out the tubes! I am keeping "score" and have noticed a change in consistency this past week, despite the fact the literature states there is no change in either volume or texture.
    .

We were told 40 for clear out..... Dr told us we needed to participate 40 times in 10 weeks.....! :o

I wonder if accidents happen sometimes due to people misunderstanding that it's the number of ejaculations and not the length of time that matters in depleting the sperm in semen? If people are only having sex once a week ( and the bloke isn't helping himself;)) then it's going to take 6 months or more to be clear.

Hubby's probably clear now after 7 weeks but I'm not having my coil out until he's had the 2 clear samples - is it weird that I'm looking forward to "assisting" him in getting said samples? Trying to think of fun ways to do it.
The pot is very small though!

Perhaps a poll on the most fun / kinkiest way of getting it done? :D
(as long as it doesn't involve doughnuts _pale_ - referring to a vomit inducing !!!!!! clip btw).

Be aware that his sex drive may well spike after a few weeks , when they mention one of the side effects as having fuller feeling testicles, it's code for him feeling like they haven't been emptied for a while, when in reality it's only been a day or two! Not that I'm complaining mind you.:o

The first time after his snip will be nerve wracking for the both of you, I was paranoid after he had it done and was more than relieved that the morning after his op, his sleep induced hydraulics were functioning normally, if painfully. I could have cried with relief when sex was "normal" the first time after his op - I'd read too many scare stories about the man losing all sensation!

You should have been given a copy of the signed consent listing all the possibile complications. If you've kept it you can look and see what you were told.
My guess is you didn't bother to read it.
I'm trying to remember how many consent forms I've signed. It's at least 4 - D&C following miscarriage, sterilisation, brain surgery, coil fitted under GA (because they might have been able to do something else). Not once have I been given a copy to keep - and I know I'd remember if I had a copy of the brain surgery one, which was awesomely scary!

No the majority of people are not given copies of consent forms to keep - they are stored in your NHS notes.

No procedure or medication is 100% effective.....No doctor would ever claim or suggest that would be the case.

I cant believe the number of people that just want to seek compensation from the NHS - we receive generally good care for no direct cost - procedures and medication which cost £1000s of pounds. Yes, nothing is 100% effective and i am truly sorry that your case is one of those minor few that life plays a twist in - consider your options which hopefully wont involve depriving others of treatment on the NHS!
  • ive had a hysterectomy years ago and went in2 hospital recently they did a pregnancy test, i said u dont need to do that cos ive had a hysterectomy, doc says there is still a chance an we have to make sure b4 u have an op
apparently 1 in a million :rotfl:
  • I fell pregnant after being sterilized, and did sue the NHS.

The reason that i sued them was the fact that i was let out of the hospital, despite feeling unwell and sick, they were closing the hospital for the night and didnt want to go to all the trouble of sending me to another hospital. And the fact that i fell pregnant only 3.5 months later.

I did win my case, though it took 3 years and though i didnt win a lot, it covered all the trauma of the termination that i had to go through. In a room with 7 other women, being treated as if i was the scum of the earth.

I was re-sterilised and touch wood its been fine since, but if it happened again then i would not sue this time as it would be one of those things. But they did make sure as i now have 3 clips on each side, just to make sure:rotfl:
