I want to live with Nigel Slater in that house - I know he's gay but I don't mind! I could listen to him talking about food and cooking all day!

:rotfl: I'm the same. About a year ago, my mum had to break it to me that even if I did leave Mr Maitane and go searching for Nigel Slater, I wouldn't have much chance.

So now I settle for his books, shows and eating scrummy Nigel Slater recipes.

Did you see the chat/cookery show he did "A Taste of my Life" where he interviewed people about their memories and cooked their favourite foods? it was very good.

I did Loubee, one of my favourites was with Griff Rhys Jones and they tried to make sushi. :D
Also, it was just after my graduation and Griff Rhys Jones was an honourary degree-y person. I wish it had been Nigel Slater though for his 'contribution to making quick, cheap cooking tasty' :rotfl:

Shall we start a Nigel fanclub?

i was half watching this as I was cooking at the same time - but I use my Mum as a bench mark. She said she didn't think it was that "simple"

I can't get her to buy into the idea of a storecupboard - she just sees a herb she doens't have and thinks "oh, i'm not buying that for one recipe, such a waste and it costs more". If it's stuff she hasn't heard of (or has but isn't familiar with) , that's it, she gives up. I do sometimes wonder where I came from.

I have challenged her to write down for two weeks every time she throws food out and what it is so we can cost it (as she insists she has no money). I could save her a fortune if she would listen, but as much as I can get her watching Econ Gast and things like this, she won't do it. :o

Think I would need to watch again, to assess how simple it is (or if it's simple to a "cook" )
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

It wasn't instant custard but readymade. I imagine it is the readymade egg custard from the chiller cabinet and not a carton of Ambrosia.
  • Still ready made!!!!!

  • Love Nigel Slater's approach to cooking. after the programme last night he "inspired" me to use what I had for a lunch to take to work today. I had in the fridge an aubergine that needed using up, a small rectangle of feta, 1 - yes 1! cherry tomato and three felafel, I also had the end of a pot of basil. Halved and baked the aubergine, mixed the flesh with the feta and put back in the skin, covered with basil leaves and the tomato chopped into quarters and then crumbled over the felafel. Took to work and nuked it for a couple of minutes - delicious!
