LOVE Nigel Slater - by far and away my favourite chef/cook and use his recipes a lot. Best one was a free giveaway in a Sunday paper, a precis of his 30 minute meals - 10 minute trifle with no jelly and a fabulous marscapone topping. The last line said something like 'leave in fridge for at least half hour - I don't usually bother and find 1 minute is enough' :rotfl::rotfl: Follow that bit of advice each time.

I'm not sure the book is related to the series. It is about vegetable cookery. Due out on the 15th I think.
I watched and enjoyed this programme. I particularly liked his thoughts on recipes. I'm always banging on about not following recipes as if they were the 'one of the 10 commandments'.
I also liked the fact that the programme was just about food and not about members of the public and how bad they are at cooking, budgeting and generally running their lives.
It made me seriously hungry though:p0 -
I watched with my 9 yr old. She was deeply appalled by the Friday fry up of leftovers and insisted that he is stupid as his fridge is so empty and he can't figure out that he needs to go shopping!0

I want to live with Nigel Slater in that house - I know he's gay but I don't mind! I could listen to him talking about food and cooking all day!Jane

I have a feeling the the kitchen was a set. Something about the patio through the French windows didn't look right. I still want my kitchen to look like it set or not. The garden's definitely his though.
Inspired by Nigel's approach to free-form trifle I think I'm going to make a free-form cheesecake at the weekend. I don't want to make or buy custard for trifle but I do have cream cheese and digestives (leftover from a chocolate biscuit cake) and I have tons of berries in the freezer.
I think I'll beat the cheese with some cream and/or yogurt, sugar and a squirt of lemon juice. I'll cook the berries as he did and make the biscuit base. Then I shall layer it in a glass bowl.0 -

Ha ha-me too! He just seems so nice and gentle, and so passionate about food. Was very upset to find out he was gay as I had him on my list as a potential Mr Loubee
