Ecco Shoes - They rot whether you wear them or not!

I haven't bought Ecco shoes for years since the soles disintegrated on a hardly worn pair. The only other time this has happened to me was with a very cheap pair of slippers from a discount shop.0

I have had 2 pairs of Hotters on which the soles have disintegrated after being worn just a few times. Hotter don't want to know as I bought them from a retail shop. I kept them for a couple of years before wearing them. All my family wear Hotter... until now that is. I certainly won't buy their shoes again.0

The value is not what dictates how long something lasts
A year for a pair of ecco shoes is perfectly reasonable
Many factors come into play when assesing individual wear
Customers, weight, any foot or back problems which affect the way your foot sits in the shoe, how much your feet sweat,if you wear socks/hoisery ,if you expect to wear them most days without rotating shoes,do you drive in them, how do you treat them if you get then wet etc...how the shoes have been stored & where
I think your unreasonable I think you got good wear for your money in my personal opinion as someone who has worked in footwear retail for over 20 years
There's a wealth of information on the Internet now about the fact that Ecco use POLYURETHANE soling which degrades if not used regularly. Hence people have to wear their Ecco shoes every day, that's all pairs so if you have ten pairs you need to wear all ten pairs in rotation every day. Seems wearing them pumps out the degrading chemicals!
I reckon shoes should last as long as you want them to if you look after them.
Problem with Ecco nowadays is that whilst the uppers may remain pristine and in good repair the soles just fall apart.
So I was a fan of ecco pre the sole problems and as my expensive ecco shoes which someone commented on how nice they looked last week are disintegrating underneath I guess I'm done with Ecco.
I know this post is years old but seems relevant, just wish my shoes were.
By the way these shoes are 7 years old.
The soles on my 14 year old ecco shoes are fine, but the uppers have gone as expected! Different formulation of the soles.0 -
My 'ECO' shoes are made from cardboard and whenever it rains, their biodegradability is proven.
Buddy Holly may have sung "It's raining in my heart", but I can truly say that "it's raining in my socks" ..... :rotfl:0 -

I have to say that I would be disappointed by a pair of good quality and/or expensive shoes that only went on to last a year. For example, I'm lucky to get 3 months out of the cheapos I get from Deichmann for £15, but will be gutted if I get less than 5 years out of the uppers of the Loakes that I purchased for £1600 -
I had two pairs of Ecco lace up casuals , bought from a local outlet store and they lasted for over 3 years , with regular wear.
OP, did you store your shoes in plastic bags, as I have a feeling that I once read that this is not advisable ?0 -

I think this is a thread that gets brought back to life when somebody unhappy with their Ecco shoes Googles & a link to this thread pops up.
The only pair of Ecco boots I had lasted ages but they were worn regularly each winter.
I've had this happen to other makes of shoes - including Clarks - when I've not worn them.
The only footwear I store in plastic bags are my UGG boots - and that's after leaving them for a day or 2 after wearing before putting them away.0 -
[I've had similar problems with both Ecco and Hotter shoes .......... surely it's a complete nonsense to say you must keep wearing them to avoid the soles disintegrating into powder /chunks coming away . These shoes aren't cheap !:mad:0

Found this post when my Ecco boots which had only been worn Twice had sole separating. They were bought in 2008 but kept in thei box with all the storage items such as dehumidifiers as had not needed to wear them until recently. I telephoned customer service who said I needed to take them to one of their shops before they could do anything. I duly trudged to Oxford Street shop (with all the costs involved). First they offered a small 10% discount on another pair, which obviously not attractive, then some bod came out, did not introduce himself, said they were going to do nothing for me. So I said "don't you stand behind your product" and he said NO. So there it is. I was sent on a wild goose trip by their customer services and then effectively told that the staff don't believe in their product. There is clearly a production problem as there are so many issues worldwide. I looked st an older pair of Ecco boots where sole was stitched and they are fine. I will not buy Ecco again and am advising my walking group colleagues of their poor service. How to destroy a brand!0

Issues of people buying their product and then storing them for almost a decade!!!!. And then complaining that they want a refund. Why does nobody seem to buy Ecco shoes and then wear them straight away?0
