Tesco have just opened an opticians in my local store.
I have been getting my monthly contact lenses by post from D&A for the last 8 years, but I have discovered I can get better quality lenses from Tesco for around 2/3 the price I am currently paying D&A.
The optician I saw at Tesco used to work for D&A so he knew straight away what the lenses I have been wearing were like, and I had the most thorough eye examination I have ever had in my life!
So far, I'm most impressed - and I saw a great pair of specs while I was there - £20!2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

I bought my lenses from
http://www.conceptlens.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=232
I have been prescribed the above since I started wearing contact lenses three months ago. Can anyone recommend another good one? Tried a few before, but it seems these were the most comfortable for me.0 -
My usual lens supplier put the prices up too much so I trawled the internet lookingfor somone else. I tried the same company through another name contactforlenses.com. I ordered 21May. They quoted dispatch in 2-4 days and european deliver 3-5 days. Payment was taken immediately, despite them saying payment would not be taken until order was ready for dispatch. After much chasing, various e-mails, a non-existant phone number etc I got response to say my order was ready for shipping on 30 May. 03June and still not shipped. I have demanded a refund immediately and copy of the refund transaction reference. STEER CLEAR!
I´m now trying feelgoodcontacts.com. They have responded promptly to questions. Now I wait and see how long it takes them!I ordered lenses from Bettereyesite.com,which are mentioned in Martins article, nearly two weeks ago but none have arrived. I received confirmation of the order and my credit card was debited.
I have queried the non delivery three times by email - you cant phone them as no number is given on their site - but no response. They are located in Jersey.
Has anyone else had problems with this company ?0 -
Last year my optician at Boots said that I was overwearing my lenses so she changed the prescription from Boots daily disposables, which I loved, to Acuvue Tru-eye, which she said I could wear longer - up to 14 hours a day. At my first check up I said that the new lenses seemed to be affecting my near vision. She asked if I had been in low light when I noticed this. I had, so I ignored it. However, several months later I find that my near vision has gone, to the extent that I sometimes take off my glasses to read small print and putting mascara on while wearing my contacts is getting more and more a case of guestimating.
I wonder:
1. Are Tru-eye recommended for extended wear? I have found nothing on the internet to suggest that they are.
2.Tru-eye are way more expensive than the Boots dailies, so was the change in prescription really a sales drive? My optician also tried to get me to buy a new pair of glasses while I was there, which I didn't, but it did make me wonder.
3. Was the change in contact lenses responsible for my worsening near sight? My eyesight has been stable for the last ten years, but I am in my forties, so could probably expect some worsening of my eyesight. Having said that, the change in lenses and the worsening near sight do seem to have happened at about the same time.
Any advice gratefully received.
Many thanks.

Hi Constance,
While I cannot answer whether Acuvue affected your sight (although as sight changes are usually due to more than say damage to the front of the eye which is all these lenses could have done, I'd say it's unlikely), or if it's just a result of your age (needing to use reading specs usually starts in the 40's),I can say that in my experience Opticians will tell you what they want to make you change lenses or pay more than you need to.
Specsavers apparently "downgraded" their rebranded Ciba Dailies, and I was told I was damaging my eyes wearing them for 14 hours a day, and I must drop this to below 10 hours or I'd damage my sight!! Scary words indeed. Funnily this coincided with these lenses dropping in price by £6 per month, and them introducing a "Premium" pair for the same original price as the Ciba Dailies - cynic moi??
I contacted Ciba and was told that, yes they still provided Specsavers with their lenses (so the quality of the lenses remained the same), but that no, they had definately not "downgraded" them, and they had not changed the terms of wearing or anything like I was told by Specsavers. While I don't blame the assistants in store - they only tell what they've been told to, someone was definately telling porkies somewhere in the chain of command.
Needless to say I still wear the Dailies and pay the smaller amount.
Personally, I don't like the Acuvision lenses, as they have a much higher water content I find they dry out sooner and so I really can't get extended wear from them at all, and canot comment about whether they are suggested for extended wear.
Also different opticians have differing views and some are more timid like they think you shouldn't wear anything on your eyes at all, so you might like to go back and see a different one for more advice. There was one I had who told me to take the night and day extended wear lenses out at night - every night! What's the selling point of these lenses then?
Sorry I've waffled on for a bit, but I would go back, but make sure you see a different optician and explain what you have here, tell them you want to go back to your previous lenses and ask if there is any eye damage which might stop you doing so. Good luck and I hope you get this sorted soon.
It's only a game

On the subject of eye surgery:
I had it done and it went wrong - over correction, double vision in one eye, 'halo' effect at night.
If you decide to go ahead here's some information that you may find useful:
There are two main proceedures:
Lasik - this is where they slice a thin flap from your eye, laser your eye then place the flap back.
Pros: less pain, quick results, (can see almost immeidiately), could have both eyes done at same time.
Cons: more expensive, more complicated, thus more to go wrong.
Lasek - this is where they laser the surface of your eye
Pros: cheaper, simpler less to go wrong
Cons: can be more painful, can take up to 2 weeks to get results, would probably need to get one eye done at a time.
My recomendations:
If you can; try lenses first, but if you must have laser, go for the cheaper Lasek (as there is less to go wrong) and have one eye done at a time, then if it goes wrong at least you still have one good eye. If it goes OK then go back for a second treatment, I know it's more trouble, but believe me if it does go wrong, (as in my case), you'll be making a lot more than two visits.
Good luck0 -
Hi Majorzott
Is there nothing they can do about your over correction? They normally can do a laser re-enhancement free of charge which will normally sort out the problems?
Is your other eye ok?0
