Evening all - any tips on how to deal with a total meltdown from a seriously overtired baby who won;t got to sleep? She is crying so much and so hard and we can;t clam her down at all. None of our usual methods are working and she's been doing this on and off since 2pm. She has catnapped a bit but needs a proper sleep. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

Elle, ((Hugs)) (Hubby is on his way home with butter, chocolate, golden syrup, marshmallows and biscuits... Guess what I'm doing tomorrow!)
Mfd, anytime after 9:30 is good for me tomorrow... Have to be up to get Aimee to school anyway... Keeley, if you're around, what's best for you?
Sami... My fairies haven't forgotten you, they're just damn lazy
I tried Caitlyn with a cup today... Found one in home bargains with a soft silicon spout... She got about half an ounce out of it... I think more by luck than trying... She doesn't actively resist it or anything, just doesn't have any interest on sucking on it...
Anyway, don't know why I'm sitting here, I'm supposed to be feeding Caitlyn up ready for when I go out in 15 minsA very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...My Fathers Daughter wrote: »Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

No, it does not involve leaving them to cry. I used the CLB routines with Alice (although I didn't do everything the same as she recommends) and I thought it was a bad day if Alice cried for as much as an hour a day. Alice didn't like lying down so the majority of her crying was due to objecting to lying down (which was mainly on the change mat) - she was like one of those dolls that opens/shuts their eyes when you lie them down/put them upright except that with her it would stop/start her crying.
If you read the full book, you will find that she says many times that a young baby should never be left to cry and that a crying baby should always be fed if there is any question that they could be hungry.
To be honest, Alice just fell into routine at 10 days. We had always woken her to deed if it was more than 3 1/2 hours in the day and 4 1/2 hours in the night since she had last had a feed. On day 9 she had an evening feed about the suggested time in the routine so from then I offered feeds at the suggested times (and put her to bed atthe suggested times). Although of course there were sometimes blips where she didn't sleep or was hungry early, it just seemed to work. If Alice was hungry "early" I would either just give her the full feed (if it wasn't that long till it was "due") or give her a snack feed (if it was very early) and then give her the regular feed as normal.
I would never suggest that it is the only/best way to do things but it has certainly worked well for us.
So how does it work then? Cos Lilia would deffo cry if I didn;t feed her when she wants, so how else does it work? I'm genuinely curious cos I don;t understand how else it can work except by leaving them to cry. :j

Swaddling, shushing, swaying, all in the hold where her head is just under your left boob ( with her knees slightly brought up to her chest ) and repetition of her name. Dim lighting and white noise (hoover, tv off channel, hairdryer)

Tried pretty much all that. We just resorted to using the leftover Daktarin she loves the tatse ofbut it was only temporary relief. Don;t know why she is so upset - not sure if maybe she is ill and we should give her Calpol? Could her jabs from Monday be affecting her still?
