Oddly, it's the stuff to neutralise his blood. His kidneys don't work as efficiently as they should so too much acid can build up in his blood (which can cause damage to his heart etc) so this neturalises it. I can't understand why we would have been told to stop it - when I last saw a paediatracian (not the one I spoke to today, the one who stood in for her at clinic), I asked him what it was for because Rhys has been on it so long I'd forgotten, and he told me the above, yet apparently in the notes from that day, it says that it'd been stopped. If I'd stopped it (because I'd been told to), why would I have asked what it was for?

Because don't you realise that you are only a mother who is incapable of rational thought? :p Honestly I think a lot of them seem to forget that we are quite clever and can count up to 10 and everything. ( well mostly we can, sometimes I stumble at 7...)
  • Oh elle, I really do hope its a mistake :) You have noticed so many things he is vastly improving on, so just think of all those positives :)

    I feel sick :(

Brain scan results show things have gotten worse and Rhys now has to have another MRI scan under general anaesthic. Also discovered that we should have been told to stop one of his medications but we never told and that we now have to restart it at a smaller dose, so we've been giving him the higher dose all this time.
:grouphug: I hate the way the system allows things to not get passed on like that. When I was pregnant I only got iron tablets because the MW who did my GTT thought I looked so bad that she went and checked my blood test results and discovered I should already have been given them.

Tigs, Marley & little Andrew send huge hugs to Elle-gee & Rhys (and his daddy)

    hug.jpg

Didn't manage to spend long with Andrew today as I was kept waiting  on Triage for 90 minutes AGAIN before being seen by a numptie who hadn't read my notes and just said "Well if it looks better to you, we'll leave it and review it .....". I've had enough of seeing different people every time, nobody has a handle on whether my wound is improving or not. I'm gonna see if I can see someone back in the research department instead, they know my history.

Andrew is doing just fine, his milk intake has been increased again (to 8.5 ml/hr) - this seems to be a good circle to be in, he puts on weight, they increase his milk, so he puts on weight, so they increase his milk ..... And the initial screening check for ROP has shown no problems, though they are going to re-screen every week or two until he's off any oxygen supplement.
