Hi'y'all ..... no cuddles with Andrew today, as I had to spend my hospital time in the Triage unit rather than on SCBU :( I think Andrew will forgive me though. I've finally found a Registrar who's interested in my non-healing c/section wound, the useless stitches have been removed and the wound cleaned; I have to clean it (as in inside the wound) over the next two days, and she wants to see me then. I suspect the Comm Midwives should have been doing this, instead of just looking at it and shrugging their shoulders.

Andrew was doing just fine without my cuddles today anyway, and I did get to do his cares before disappearing to the other ward. We'll make up for it tomorrow :)
Anyone good any recommendations for electric/battery breast pumps? Don't want to spend a fortune and hiring could work out expensive

I'm on the list for a hospital-grade unit from SCBU. I started using an Avent handpump and did like that, didn't suffer from wrist ache or anything. I then progressed to a Medela Mini, which was good but very noisy. Last week I got a Medela Swing, which I absolutely love as it's (a) very quiet and (b) very controllable. I now leave the Mini at SCBU to express when I'm there, as I'm too lazy to hunt down a hospital unit. Both of my units came from eBay, as all I needed was the motor, I get the horns & tubes from SCBU.

But - question for you other ladies who've used Medela's - did anyone else have problems with condensation in the horn? Makes it difficult to see whether I've got any squirties going!

  • Tigs, I found my horns went cloudy from the cold water sterilising and it frustrated me! Maybe it is a good thing, not focusing on it? I dry mine with a clean towel now, but LO was fullterm, so I think there are stricter rules for early babies. Perhaps ask at the unit?

Hope they get it sorted out Elle - must be worrying.

It's odd that so many people hate Huggies. I used them all the time for the boys with no problems, and prefer them for Charlotte. I buy them if they're on offer and work out cheaper than Tesco Essentials.

I love huggies with Dylan, they are a perfect fit and I find them really absorbent, however with Jasmine I hated them !! But I always said she was too skinny for them, so it just depends on the baby ;)

ELLE - hugs hun :grouphug: Dylan sends Rhys squidgy hugs and agghhh mmmmmm da which I think means get better soon :D

  • I loved my avent hand pump, for the 2 weeks I used it I never had any problems, but the medela swing that NICU had made the horns go a bit cloudy and you had to almost pull it off to see if there was milk there !!!

Grr.. laptop overheated again! Going to my parents to pinch my mum's laptop cooling fan tray thingy in a bit.. :(

Drama here.. just found out OH has eaten all the digestive biscuits so I can't make Rocky Road! :( I'd even hidden them in the baking cupboard but he found them.

Tigs, I agree with Feelie and reckon that you might get more if you're not watching what's happening. I always get more if I distract myself with Tetris or posting on here.. :o Btw, what do the hospital have? If you think the Swing is quiet, wait until you try the Symphony (if that's what they have)! ;)
