So looks like we'll have to go down the "visiting both banks in person" route.

She may well have to contact the branch in advance though, to make sure they have enough cash on the premises. I have to give my bank (A&L) up to a week's notice if I want to withdraw more than about £1,000!

    Don't worry Stumpty,

We sold a car a few weeks back for £7000 the buyer sent one email asking what when to come and our full address.

He turned up after a 3 hour drive with the money, took one look at the car, gave us the cash and drove off.

I doubt many car thieves want to drive off in a bright pink ka too

    Congratulations!

That just reminded me of someone on the caravan site near Oban where I used to have a van and they sold their van to someone in Wales who spent a day driving up to view it with the money, £12,500 I think, and then turned round and drove all those long miles home.

I'm sure all will be well Stumpy and everyone on MSE for sure will have their fingers crossed for you tomorrow :j

I've sent her an e-mail suggesting she speaks to her bank first ... at this rate she's going to have a wasted journey.

From her messages, she doesn't seem very organised - I've had to do all the research on the ways to get the money to me when, from the sounds of it, I should just simply have to sit and wait for her to get it sorted. I can understand that she doesn't want to transfer money without seeing it, but she seems to have just assumed that, once she's seen it, everything will just fall into place tomorrow and she'll just be able to drive away.

Ah well. We'll just have to see what happens, but I'm envisaging a long hassle filled day tomorrow. Just hope everything works out okay.

 Eventually, everything worked out okay. I'd rung my bank, and after an argument with the chap there (who insisted that a CHAPS payment would go through straight away, or at least within an hour or two, regardless of the day) I'd discovered that, as mentioned before, it wouldn't go through until Monday. So I rang her to let her know - she rang her bank and then rang me back to confirm that (these people on "customer services" are really stupid sometimes!!), and that she'd organised to pick up the cash instead from her local bank.

After a slight !!!! up (they'd arranged for the cash to be collected at the wrong branch!!) she arrived an hour after we'd arranged (due to having to wait for her real branch to count up the money!) but was well chuffed with the car (and the boyfriend found no fault either, although I suspect he will be resistant to being driven around in it!!) and everything went really well.

    Hurray!

When I'm slightly more sober (England match and all that ...!!) I've got some more photos to stick on the site, including one of the new owner!! ;)

Great news Stumpy, I have been thinking about you all day :D

Just you relax with another chilled glass or two of wine and enjoy contemplating which debts you pay off first!

I'm so relieved it's all over - it's been a stressful few days, but worth it I think. Apart from England failing miserably yet again. My OH apparently could have done better  (but then, I suspect a few have said that!).
