Car drivers = grrr!

Okay ,
I've read the thred , it seemed inevitable the replys the OP was going to get .
Firstly let me clarify , I am a female biker / car driver / mother / wife / daughter etc etc blar blar. I come from a family of bikers , my husband rides , i ride , my dad and his gf ride , my grandad rode , my freinds ride , my coleagues ride.
I see a small handfull of riders overtaking / lanesplitting , without any thought for themselves. But thats their choice.
I dont wear reflective clothing , i have a nice shiny head light that people SHOULD see. Once you take a cbt , direct access you become more aware . I was a pillion for 5 years before i took my test . I think it should be compulsery for all new car drivers and riders to take the equivalent tests .. Be restricted for so many years (BHP) wether in a car or on a bike so that their brains (if they have one) can develop a sense of speed , spacial awareness , maturity .
Oh to clarify , bikers are bikers . Scooter riders are something different ..
The majority of scooter riders have a cbt and thats it. They have no sense of fear or danger and a huge bravado because of their age.
At the end of the day ALL road users should respect each others space. Abide by the highway code (filtering is legal) lane splitting is not. Cycleists should stop at those big things with red lights on , car drivers / bikers should stop when the lights change. Cyclists should use the road not the pavement , as cyclists can kill pedestrians .

I ride a bike , drive a car because I choose too . But I drive a car with the awareness of a biker. Its amazing they dont teach car drivers to do a life saver... I do
Anyhoos.. The majority of accidents are caused by drivers. Car drivers have a sense of sod everyone else. But to me everyone on the road is out to get me .
Think Bike , when turning left . Maintain your car , so that all the lights work , dont overfill your car in the petrol station and not put any sand on it or tell the nice counter girll about the spillage. Dnt overfill your van / lorry with deisal so it spills on the road (grrrrrr) .
Bikers are taught to observe, read car drivers minds and look ahead . I can see whats happening wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy before any car drivers.
OMG how long is this post..
Anyway . I love biking and ride for the freedom ... Remeber a bike gets u there a little quicker , but leave the racing for the track....:T
Nice post from different perspective, ie a female biker, but I have to take you to task over the highlighted bit. Although I know what you are saying regarding visibility, you can manoever 1 side or the other to see round cars, and have a chance to sit up and look over cars, but it does no protect you from the fact that the car infront is often close enough to the car in front of it that it totally obscures the signals that car is giving. I know of several right turn accident to bikers because of this, and they were actually the bikers fault.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

Rule 167
DO NOT overtake where you might come into conflict with other road users. For example

I suspect THIS might be relevent to a lot of car drivers when we tall about overtaking,
168
Being overtaken. If a driver is trying to overtake you, maintain a steady course and speed, slowing down if necessary to let the vehicle pass. Never obstruct drivers who wish to pass. Speeding up or driving unpredictably while someone is overtaking you is dangerous. Drop back to maintain a two-second gap if someone overtakes and pulls into the gap in front of you.
But that aside, I was referring to filtering, not overtaking.0 -

We're talking about filtering, which is legal.0 -

Sorry i dint make myself xlear , i meant as a car driver and biker , when in the car I use my bike skills for observation ..
But you do have a vald point on the obscure views etc. and I really dont know what the sun does to most drivers/ bikers , general road users as most think they are batfink and have "sheilds of steel " invisibility..
Sunstroke i think :rotfl:ONE HOUSE , DS+ DD Missymoo Living a day at a time and getting through this mess you have created. One day life will have no choice but to be nice to me :rotfl:0 -
every weekend here in the north wales hills with its windy roads we have 100's of motorbikers who ride at speeds in excess of 100mph , over taking on bends, in the face of oncoming traffic, sitting on the rear drivers side of your car waiting to overtake in between the 2 lanes of traffic , its quite scary. No wonder so many have been killed in this area.0

There will be even more there this weekend.:p. You have great roads and it is a handful of bikers and high powered car drivers that cause these. This is just a fantastic example of media hype at its best .Unfortunatly because of a certain high powered copper targetting bikers not working with them to reduce these accidents, local buisnesses are suffering because this copper is opn his own little high horse. If he took a lesson from Chesters Cheif constable and ensured a police attendance at bike meets , not to target them but to organise bikesafe attendance and educate bikers he may actually get somewhere to reduce the death toll on North wales roads...
I for one avoid north wales , not because if the death rate , but because of the distrimination bikers get by the local constabulary ...

Bike riders don't overtake cars usually, they undertake them0

I can see both sides in this, I've seen my fair share of mad bikers. One that sticks in my mind is the guy who decided to overtake 3 cars into a blind bend, very narrowly missing a white van in the process. But that said, I see a lot of sensible bikers too.
I think all of us, be it in a car or on a bike, can have moments of madness, moments of taking safety for granted etc. Prime example was my cousin, a senior police officer in the bike squad he had been riding big Jap bikes for as long as I could remember and when he joined the force naturally became a biker with them. He was probably one of the best trained bikers on the road.
One sunny sunday afternoon a few friends and he took a ride down to mid wales, where he overtook when he shouldnt and was killed instantly, leaving behind a 3 week old daughter.
Its easy to forget when the sun is shining and the roads are seemingly clear that you are riding something quite capable of killing you and others.0
