75% of Bike - Car accidents occur on urban roads, in 39% of cases the precipitating factor was the biker ... but in 61% of incidents the car driver was deemed to be at fault. ......... (So watch out, they really are out to get you).

    The figures speak for themselves.

The % was told to me by my firefighter friend who is stationed in a rural station in East Sussex.

Driven? Bikes are quite different to cars, you can manoeuvre much more easily and the only life really at risk is the biker. If this scares you, perhaps you shouldn't be on the road at all.

    Think! Bike.

You, Sir, sound like an idiot. Only those who are not afraid of seeing anyone killed should venture out onto the roads; and the rest of us should stay on the pavement? So transport is actually a 'contact sport'?

It's that kind of reckless attitude towards life that gets people into trouble.

I have no doubt that is what he/she said, but they are wrong.

I had my mountain bike hit this evening, I was stopped at the front of the queue, in the painted cycle box waiting for the lights to change. The lights change and I went to move off and she kindly hit my rear wheel. She basically watched the lights change and went without taking into account me being in front of her.

Heel-and-toe is a driving technique used mostly in performance driving, although some drivers use it on the road in everyday conditions in the interests of effectiveness. It involves operating the throttle and brake pedals simultaneously with the right foot, while facilitating normal activation of the clutch with the left foot. It is used when braking and downshifting simultaneously (prior to entering a turn), and allows the driver to "blip" the throttle to raise the engine speed and smoothly engage the lower gear.

    And you drive an i10.

    Getting away from the obvious all car drivers/all bikers are idiots side of this argument, can I ask those that seem to have issues with bikers filtering in traffic;

When was the last time you got held up by a biker or caught in a biker traffic jam?
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

    Okay ,

I've read the thred , it seemed inevitable the replys the OP was going to get .

Firstly let me clarify , I am a female biker / car driver / mother / wife / daughter etc etc blar blar. I come from a family of bikers , my husband rides , i ride , my dad and his gf ride , my grandad rode , my freinds ride , my coleagues ride.

I see a small handfull of riders overtaking / lanesplitting , without any thought for themselves. But thats their choice.

I dont wear reflective clothing , i have a nice shiny head light that people SHOULD see. Once you take a cbt , direct access you become more aware . I was a pillion for 5 years before i took my test . I think it should be compulsery for all new car drivers and riders to take the equivalent tests .. Be restricted for so many years (BHP) wether in a car or on a bike so that their brains (if they have one) can develop a sense of speed , spacial awareness , maturity .

Oh to clarify , bikers are bikers . Scooter riders are something different ..

The majority of scooter riders have a cbt and thats it. They have no sense of fear or danger and a huge bravado because of their age.

At the end of the day ALL road users should respect each others space. Abide by the highway code (filtering is legal) lane splitting is not. Cycleists should stop at those big things with red lights on , car drivers / bikers should stop when the lights change. Cyclists should use the road not the pavement , as cyclists can kill pedestrians .

I ride a bike , drive a car because I choose too . But I drive a car with the awareness of a biker. Its amazing they dont teach car drivers to do a life saver... I do

Anyhoos.. The majority of accidents are caused by drivers. Car drivers have a sense of sod everyone else. But to me everyone on the road is out to get me .

Think Bike , when turning left . Maintain your car , so that all the lights work , dont overfill your car in the petrol station and not put any sand on it or tell the nice counter girll about the spillage. Dnt overfill your van / lorry with deisal so it spills on the road (grrrrrr) .

Bikers are taught to observe, read car drivers minds and look ahead . I can see whats happening wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy before any car drivers.

OMG how long is this post..

Anyway . I love biking and ride for the freedom ... Remeber a bike gets u there a little quicker , but leave the racing for the track....:T
