Housing Benefit isn't enough!!

I have to agree with the others: you really do have to learn to budget according to the money you have, not the money you would like to have! Its a lesson that we all have to learn, I'm afraid!
A macrobiotic diet relies upon fresh food in season - do not buy from the supermarket but from the market - your veggies will be a lot cheaper there! You can save some water if you are concerned about flushing the loo very frequently by asking the water company if you can have a "water hippo" to put in the cistern - this cuts down the amount of water used every flush.
Check your electric meter - are you on a prepayment meter that has been set to collect a previous tenant's debt? Check with the electric company.
Use Martins Money to check that you have the very best possible insurance company if you have convinced yourself that you really cannot do without a car.
Oh yes - and give up the cigarettes - did you know that they can excarbate your Crohns disease?0 -
I appreciate that you might want to have your own space but if its possible to go and live back home and get some support from your family maybe that would be the best way to resolve your problems."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

The OP has stated she has Crohn's disease and has moved into her first place.
Like most people who move into their own digs for the first time, the OP has had a wake up call of how expensive things are.
I, for one, can't wait for my teenage son to get his own digs for him to realise money doesn't grow on trees and things have to be budgeted for and not simply spent down the pub every other night!
The OP claims she hasn't enough free money to live on and wants more.
There are families working themselves to the bone in this recession to keep the wolves away from the door.
To the OP, your budgeting seems a bit way out. As for tobacco, it's a luxury working tax payers have had to forgo during this recession.
It's an addiction and not a necessity.
its not that i dont have enough free money to live on and i want more, its that i dont have the money to pay for my rent and council tax. i dont need money to live on, im happy with my tabacco! i no luxary! but the only one i have. i dont have crisps buiscuits, chocolate, no wine beer or spending sprees on clothes, all i want is to be able to pay my bills0 -

Then change your thread title to 'I spend too much.'
Rent and council tax are priority bills which need to be paid above everything else - tobacco isn't.0 -

ive tryed looking for somewhere near me for fresh veg and fruit but not really seen anywhere. i am now looking into organic veg and fruit boxes to see if that may lower it. i haven't looked at the meter for that so i may check that out. also i really cannot do without my car.0 -
I used to have a diesel but has to sell as it was dying so i bought this stupidly thinking that it would be about the same money (diesel did 100 miles to a tenner
) but it doesn't. it does bout 100 miles to fifteen pounds! i have a feeling something might be going on it, maybe pump or something but can't take it to a garage right now because of money problems!! i drive like a granny everywhere i go, always have done. but i do a lot of little driving. i would like to try and walk more soon but at the moment due to my health i cant do it just yet. as i said i am putting the money on roughly when it is running out to gauge roughly how much it is going to cost. but i am changing suppliers soon as i know it sounds a bit much and i have a service change on both meters. so hopefully that will cut it down a bit.
Does it have air con or anything? If it does that zaps petrol like there is no tomorrow. Is there any chance of swapping to a diesel 106? You have about the smallest cheapest car possible but if you had a diesel you may be able to get those miles from it you had before. Even ensuring you go shopping once a week/fortnight/month for groceries could see your petrol bill shrink that little bit. Unload the boot of any woman related rubbish too, when my car is emptied of shoes, clothes and random other things I get a higher mpg :rotfl:
I can understand the issues with regard to water, although I do not have anything as bad as Crohn's I suffer from ibs and can very well believe you would spend a silly amount on water. Is there any possibility in the future of moving to a complex where water rates are included? We have water included in our rent, bad news for people who do not use any, great news for you!0 -
So sorry to hear you're having problems. I don't know much about Crohns but it sounds awful and I hope you can find some resolution with it.
Your three best options are:
1) move back to where you were before (which seems the best thing to do)
2) find work
3) live in a houseshare despite the scrubbing
Are all three of these absolutely impossible?
If so, then you really need to lose the car. What are you going to do when the first car service/repair bill comes in? How will you afford car tax? Has somebody bought you this car but now you have to maintain it?
If public transport is not feasible then I'd get a quote from a taxi company for the trips you need to make and compare the monthly costs to car ownership.0 -

i know i sound like a spoiled brat but no taxis dont work. i dont like travelling bymyself with a taxi driver (afriad). and i wouldnt like to go oh excuse me could you just stop for 5 mins at a loo so i can go and use it for the 2 - 20 mins and see the money go up! i doubt it be less expensive. I have sat down and widdled away at my expenses. i will go and see about giving up smoking so thats adds £26 a month but i still £80. getting rid of the car aint an option in my eyes!0 -

There are loads of people going to work who don't have enough money left over to pay for rent and council tax and feed/clothe children.
It is these tax payers who are paying your benefits and rent.
Why do you expect the tax payer to help fund your living arrangements?
Most 19 yr olds can't afford their bus fare right now never mind having their own digs.Be happy, it's the greatest wealth0
